  1. National Student Exchange

    Unreferenced date September 2008 National Student Exchange NSE is an exchange program for undergraduate students in the United States and Canada. Through this program, students can study in a different region of the United States or Canada at little or no additional cost. The National Student Exchange program began in the 1967 1968 school year with only seven students. The purpose of this program was to allow students who could not take advantage of the study abroad programs at their school to experience a different culture for a year or semester . Since 1967 the program has grown to include over 180 college campus es in the United States, Canada, and Caribbean and places over 3500 students every year. There are two different plans on which a student can exchange on, plan A and plan B. If a student exchanges on plan A, the student pays the in state tuition rate at their host campus. The classes taken at the host campus are transferred to the home campus after the exchange period. Plan B allows students to pay tuition at their home campus and enroll in classes at their home campus, although they will not physically be at their home campus. With both plans the student must meet with their academic advisor to create a contract that includes all of the courses that the student will take while on exchange. Event safety, first aid, judging, commentary, bar staffing and general gophering are all dealt with by happy, enthusiastic members of LUUCC, River Legacy and other fantastic volunteers. The focus of the competition has always been on the fun aspect of the sport, in order to encourage participation from novice paddlers. This is mirrored in the prize giving ceremonies, where the best prizes are saved for the novice and intermediate categories. However this is not to say that competition in the expert finals is not fierce.   1. National Student Marketing Corporation

    National Student Marketing Corporation N.S.M.C., NSMC was the name of a high flying company started by Cortes Wesley Randell , a young Washington, D.C. business consultant , in 1966 during the height of the Go Go 60s stock market. The corporation catered to the youth market and was touted by various Wall Street professionals. Through publicity from acquisitions and the late 1960s bull market , the stock rose from its Initial Public Offering price of 6 a share to 140. Several universities, including the Harvard endowment fund, invested in NSMC. After the crash of 1970, and after Randell had cashed out a portion of his shares, several Wall Street professionals were convicted of wrongdoing by the government. Some of these accused were later acquitted, with at least one spending some time in jail. Following an investigation of Randell s role in the stock crash, prosecutors alleged that he had misrepresented the company s earnings. He pleaded guilty in 1975 and was sentenced to 18 months in prison for stock fraud conspiracy and three other counts of fraud. Investors sued Randell in civil court and were awarded 35 million.
