It was founded in 1997, at the occasion of Thessaloniki s year as European Capital of Culture . The museum was established by a law passed in the Greek Parliament by then Greece Greek Minister of Culture , Evangelos Venizelos . Its initial collection was formed by a large part of the famous George Costakis Costakis Collection , acquired by the Greek state. It contains around 1,275 works of Russian avant garde art consisting of paintings , sculptures , drawings and constructions. The first director of the SMCA was the Aristotle University Professor Miltiadis Papanikolaou , who remained in the position until 2006. Dr. Maria Tsantsanoglou, a specialist in the Russian Avant Garde period, was appointed the next director of the State Museum of ContemporaryArt. The Nuragic and ContemporaryArtMuseum , also known as Betile , is a planned museum in Cagliari , Sardinia , Italy , designed by Zaha Hadid . Work is in progress to build it on the Sant Elia promenade, near to the Stadio Sant Elia football stadium. The structure is very futuristic, and it is similar to a coralline concretion. The museum will be dedicated to Nuragic and contemporaryart. Works from Sardinia and the Mediterranean will be displayed. Castagnino Fine Arts Museum that is devoted to contemporaryart , located in the city of Rosario , province Santa Fe Argentina . The MACRo lies beside the Paran River , at the northern end of Oro o Boulevard , on the Estanislao L pez Riverfront Avenue. It was opened to the public on November 19, 2004. The works took advantage of the Davis Silos an abandoned grain storage silo silo complex, formerly part of Port of Rosario Rosario s port facilities , now moved south . The bulk of the building consists of eight large concrete silos, painted in different colors, with a diameter of 7.5 metres. The idea, according to the official site of the museum, was to integrally preserve the building, exalting the unique features of concrete, stressing austerity as a value. There is a glass elevator outside the building, for a view of the river scenery and the nearby islands. The actual museum exhibition is located on an attached building that formerly housed the administrative offices. It has ten floors, for a total area of 970 m 10,400  ft , and as of November 2005 maintained a collection of 300 art works by 220 different artists, including Lucio Fontana and Antonio Berni .
