Plot outline The USS Enterprise NCC 1701 USS Enterprise receives orders to arrest Federation outlaw Harry Mudd , who is accused of selling fake love crystals. Intercepting Harry on the mining colony of Motherlode, they bring him aboard the Enterprise . Harry explained that he was able to escape the custody of the android planet where he had been left at the end of I, Mudd by teaching the androids how to play organized sports. While the entire planet population was cheering on their respective teams at a baseball game, Mudd slipped away. However, after convincing Nurse Chapel to try and use the love crystals to win the affection of Mr. Spock , Mudd abducts her, steals a shuttlecraft, and escapes to a rocky planet. The love crystals, however, have affected Spock, who pursues him to the planet, accompanied by Captain Kirk. During a struggle some of his love crystals are accidentally broken near an air vent and affect the entire crew of the Enterprise . Many of the crew are too busy staring into each other s eyes to keep one on the transporter. Luckily, the Captain and Spock reach the ground safely. As they materialize, however,Spock stumbles backwards as his boot sinks into the ground, only to be caught by the Captain. The two share an affectionate moment before setting off to find Spock s beloved and her kidnapper. Col. Seeley Wintersmith Mudd 1861 1926 was a mining engineer . He was born in Kirkwood, Missouri Kirkwood , a suburb of St. Louis County, Missouri St. Louis , Missouri on August 16, 1861. Born at Gallant Green in Charles County, Maryland , Mudd attended the public schools of Charles County and the District of Columbia . He moved with his parents to La Plata, Maryland , in 1896, and graduated from the academic department of Georgetown University in 1906 and from the law department in 1909. He was an unsuccessful candidate for election to the Maryland House of Delegates in 1909. Mudd was admitted to the bar in 1910 and served as professor of criminal law at Georgetown University Law School in 1910. He was appointed assistant district attorney of the District of Columbia in February 1911 and resigned in March 1911. He was an unsuccessful candidate for nomination in 1912 for election to the Sixty third Congress, and was reappointed assistant district attorney in July 1912, resigning again in March 1914 to become a candidate for Congress. He was elected from the Maryland s 5th congressional district fifth district of Maryland as a Republican to the Sixty fourth and to the four succeeding Congresses, serving from March 4, 1915 until his death in Baltimore, Maryland . He is interred in St. Ignatius Catholic Church Cemetery at Chapel Point near La Plata. His father, Sydney Emanuel Mudd I , was also a Congressman from Maryland. Sydney Emanuel Mudd I February 12, 1858 &ndash October 21, 1911 was an United States American politician. Born at Gallant Green , in Charles County, Maryland , Mudd attended Georgetown University and graduated from St. John s College, U.S. St. John s College of Annapolis, Maryland , in 1878. He studied law privately and also attended the law department of the University of Virginia at Charlottesville, Virginia Charlottesville . He was admitted to the bar in 1880 and commenced practice. Career Mudd was elected a member of the Maryland House of Delegates in 1879 and 1881. As a Republican candidate, he successfully contested the election of Barnes Compton from the Maryland s 5th congressional district fifth district of Maryland to the Fifty first Congress. The court decided in his favor he had filed charges of election fraud and he served from March 20, 1890, to March 3, 1891. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1890 to the Fifty second Congress, when Compton was re elected. Mudd was elected again to the state House of Delegates in 1895, where he served as speaker. Mudd moved to La Plata, Maryland in 1896. He served as a delegate to the Republican National Convention the same year. He was elected again from the fifth district to the Fifty fifth and to the six succeeding Congresses, serving from March 4, 1897 to March 3, 1911. In Congress, Mudd served as chairman of the United States House Committee on Expenditures in the Department of Justice Committee on Expenditures in the Department of Justice Sixtieth and Sixty first Congresses . He died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania ... near La Plata. His son, Sydney Emanuel Mudd II , was also elected a US Congressman from Maryland.
