inline date June 2010 A mimic function changes a file math A math so it assumes the statistical properties of another file math B math . That is, if math p t,A math is the probability of some substring math t math occurring in math A math , then a mimic function math f math , recodes math A math so that math p t,f A math approximates math p t,B math for all strings math t math of length less than some math n math . It is commonly considered to be one of the basic techniques for Information hiding hiding information , often called steganography . The simplest mimic functions use simple statistical models to pick the symbols in the output. If the statistical model says that item math x math occurs with probability math p x,A math and item math y math occurs with probability math p y,A math , then a random number is used to choose between outputting math x math or math y math with probability math p x,A math or math p y,A math respectively. More sophisticated mimic functions use grammar based models of math B math to structure the output. A hydrogenase mimic is an enzyme mimic of hydrogenase . Overview The fields of molecular biology and inorganic chemistry overlap in the study of metalloprotein metalloenzymes in the form of enzyme mimic s among other. The advantage of indirect modeling or enzyme mimic ry is high resolution crystal structures and well defined spectral data from which comparisons can be made to low resolution crystal structures and poorly defined spectral data obtained from the native enzymes. Modes of action can be proposed by correlating spectral properties of the hydrogenase mimics with spectral properties of different enzyme states. Interest in hydrogenase The Fe only hydrogenase s are particularly common enzymes for synthetic organometallic chemists to mimic. This interest is motivated by the inclusion of high field ligand s like cyano and carbon monoxide CO metal carbonyl in the first coordination sphere of the pertinent di iron cluster. Free cyano and carbonyl ligands are toxic to many biological systems so their inclusion in this system suggests they play pivotal roles. These high field ligands may ensure the iron centers at the active site remain in a low spin state throughout the catalytic cycle. In addition, there is bridging di thiolate between the two iron centers. This dithiolate has a three atom backbone in which the identity of the central atom is still undetermined it models crystallographically as a CH sub 2 sub , NH or O group. There is reason to believe that this central atom is an amine which functions as a Lewis base . This amine combined with Lewis acid ic iron centers makes the enzyme a bifunctional catalyst which can split hydrogen between a proton acceptor and a hydride acceptor or produce hydrogen from a proton and hydride. Since none of the ligands on the iron centers are part of the enzyme s amino acid backbone, they can not be investigated through site directed mutagenesis , but enzyme mimic ry is a feasible approach. Orphan date February 2009 No footnotes date April 2009 MIMIC Simulator is a product suite from Gambit Communications consisting of simulation software in the network management network and systems management space. MIMIC solves a classical simulation problem network management software typically manages large networks. Traditionally, in order to set up such networks for the purposes of software development , software testing or training , physical equipment had to be separately purchased and assembled in laboratories . To reduce the expense, most of the network can be simulated. The principle behind Simple Network Management Protocol SNMP simulation is that the SNMP protocol is an interface that can be simulated. SNMP requests carry data values for Management information base MIB objects, which can be shaped at will by the simulator, thus representing any device which has an SNMP interface. In contrast to network simulation , where the entire network is modelled within a computer, this type of empirical simulation is visible on the network, and one can communicate with the simulator over the network. The concept can be extended to other Protocol computing protocols such as for cable modems , command line interface CLI such as Cisco IOS or TL1 , or IPMI . An enzyme mimic is a small molecule complex that models the molecular structure, spectroscopic properties, or reactivity of an enzyme , sometimes called bioinspired complexes. ref Stephen J. Lippard, Jeremy M. Berg, Principles of Bioinorganic Chemistry , University Science Books, 1994 , ISBN 0 935702 72 5 ref Overview Enzymes are proteins which catalyze a reaction . Like any other protein an enzyme is an amino acid polymer with added Cofactor biochemistry cofactors and other post translational modifications . Often most of the amino acid polymer is indirectly involved with the enzymes function, perhaps providing ancillary structure or connectivity, indirect activity regulation, or molecular identification of the enzyme. As a result most enzymes are large molecules weighing many kilodalton s. This bulk can obscure various investigative techniques such as NMR , Electron paramagnetic resonance EPR , electrochemistry , crystallography , among others. It is standard practice to compare spectroscopic data from enzymes to similar spectroscopic data derived from better characterized small molecules. In this way the understanding of metalloenzymes and other metalloprotein s have developed. In many cases the small molecule analogs were created for other reason, however, it has been increasingly common for group to intentionally make small molecule analogs also known as enzyme mimics. These enzyme mimics are prime examples of bioinorganic chemistry . Motivation Most enyzme mimics studies are motivated by a combination of factors including factors that are unrelated to the enyzme. Several of the factors that are related to the enzyme are listed below. Defining the active site structure. A number of important active sites are still poorly defined. This includes the oxygen evolving complex ... mimicked and the primary investigators working on each enzyme mimic. Richard H. Holm Richard Holm s work ... monooxygenase MMO .
