  1. The Brooks

coord 51.063 1.312 display title region GB scale 5000 refimprove date January 2009 The Brooks is a shopping centre in Winchester , Hampshire , England. It was opened in the early 1990s and remains the only indoor shopping centre in Winchester. The city centre development was constructed to a very Postmodern design and the centre was criticised from the beginning for being spartan and not a proper indoor shopping centre. Unlike most other shopping centres at the time, which were fully enclosed, heated and had tiled floors, The Brooks had a pavement style stone floor throughout and while it had a glazed roof, there were no doors, allowing the elements to enter the centre. The Brooks Centre has a car park beneath the shopping malls, which themselves are laid out across two levels. 1. Brooks's

Image Brooks s.JPG thumb Brooks s 400px right Brooks s club Brooks s is a London gentlemen s club , founded in 1764 by 27 men, including four duke s. From its inception it was the meeting place for British Whig Party Whigs of the highest social order. Their original premises in Pall Mall, London Pall Mall were farmed or managed by the famous Almack William Macall, who reversed the syllables of his unfashionably Scottish name who also set up the iconic Almack s Almack s Assembly Rooms in nearby Duke Street. The club is named after Almack s successor Brooks, who only survived its rebuilding by three years. The current building on the west side of St. James s Street was designed by Henry Holland architect Henry Holland and opened in 1778. It faces Boodle s across the street whilst the Tory Carlton Club and White s are just up the road. Its primary purpose was originally to provide a home away from home for the gentleman of the time, who was normally not at all domestic. At Brooks s he could meet his friends and avoid his and others ladies at any time of the day or night. The club provided substantial but ordinary meals, to the point that complaints about the everlasting sameness led to the founding of Watier s in 1806. The gaming rooms used to be one of the main attractions. At several tables in one, gentlemen would stake fortunes on whist and Hazard game hazard . Gambling all night was common all day and all night, not unheard of. When the stakes far exceeded any ordinary expenses .... Numerous eccentric bets were and are made in the Brooks s betting book. 1. Mel Ramos

Original research date December 2007 File Mel Ramos 2007.JPG thumb Mel Ramos 2007 Mel Ramos born July 24, 1935 is a U.S. figurative painter, whose work incorporates elements of Realism arts realist and abstract art . Born in Sacramento, California , he gained his greatest popularity in association with the Pop Art movement of the 1960s. Mel Ramos received his first important recognition in the early 1960s since 1959 he has participated in more than 120 group shows. Along with other artists such as Andy Warhol , Roy Lichtenstein , Claes Oldenburg and James Rosenquist , Ramos produced art works that celebrated aspects of popular culture as represented in mass media . His paintings have been shown in major exhibitions of Pop Art in the U.S. and in Europe , and reproduced in books, catalogs, and periodicals throughout the world. The classification of Ramos within any particular school of art is disputed. Some critical observers of the art scene classify Mel Ramos as a pop artist. However, others believe identification of Ramos work within the Pop movement of the 1960s implies a satirical or parodic bent which does not reflect the broader context of his paintings, and instead defend his parodies as respectful, affectionate tributes, a celebration of images with personal meaning.
