No midrash by this name is mentioned in Talmudic literature, nor do the medieval authors refer to such a work. Although Maimonides says in his introduction to the Yad ha aza ah , R. Ishmael explained from we eleh shemot to the conclusion of the Torah , that is, the Mekilta, he did not see this midrash, which also includes Deuteronomy, since he does not quote any Mekilta passages to that book of the Pentateuch in his Sefer ha Mi wot, although he draws upon the halakic midrashim in discussing most of the commandments. Maimonides probably knew, therefore, merely through an old tradition which he had heard that such a midrash by R. Ishmael existed. Unreferenced date December 2009 Sefer ha Ikkarim Book of Principles is a fifteenth century work by rabbi Joseph Albo , a student of Crescas . It is an eclectic, popular work, whose central task is the exposition of the principles of Judaism . ref The present state of the jews by Lancelot Addison 1676 ref Agreeing with Simeon ben Joseph of Lunel i.e. Duran , Albo held that there are three basic principles ikkarim that are necessary for the divine law to exist the existence of God, the revelation of God, the reward and punishment of God. From these three principles, Albo posited that there are eight derivative principles shorashim From the existence of God derives the principle of God s unity From the existence of God derives the principle of God s incorporeality From the existence of God derives the principle of God s timelessness From the existence of God derives the principle of God s perfection From the revelation of God derives the principle of God s omniscience From the revelation of God derives the principle of God s prophecy From the revelation of God derives the principle of the authentication of God s prophet From the reward and punishment of God derives the principle of individual providence. The denial of these principles, no less than the denial of the first three, makes one a heretic kofer be ikkar . It is understood in Albo s work that there are three kinds of law natural law, conventional law, and divine law. Natural law is the same for all persons, times, and places conventional law is ordered by a wise judge in accord with reason divine law is given by God through a prophet. reflist DEFAULTSORT Sefer Ha Ikkarim Category Rabbinic legal texts and responsa Category Jewish philosophical and ethical texts ... more details
The sefer Oklah we Oklah is an old Masoretic work in which the notices and rules of the Masoretes Masorah are collected it consists of groups of rare words or of certain peculiarities of the text arranged either alphabetically, or in the order of the books of the Bible, or according to some other principle, and contains also brief rules and notes on various phenomena found in the original text of the Bible. This work, whose author is unknown, takes its title from the first two words of the opening passage, which is an alphabetical list of words occurring only twice in the Bible, in one passage without the prefixed waw letter waw and in the other with it, the first of these pairs of words being oklah from 1 Samuel bibleverse nb 1 Samuel 1 9 HE and we oklah from Book of Genesis Genesis bibleverse nb Gen 27 19 HE . The book is first mentioned by Jonah ibn Janah , not only in his lexicon, but even in his first work. Ibn Janah there calls it Masoret Oklah we Oklah , and designates it as the most correct book on the Masorah. ref Opuscules , ed.
