This follows from the fact that a bijective closed map has a continuous inverse. 6. If p X Y is a perfect map and if Y is Connected space connected , then X need not be connected. For example, the constant map from a compact disconnected space to a singleton space is a perfect map. 7. A perfect map need not be open, as the following map shows p x x if x belongs to 1, 2 p x x &minus 1 if x belongs to 3, 4 This map is closed, continuous by the pasting lemma , and surjective and therefore is a perfect map the other condition is trivially satisfied . 1. Soleto Map

The Soleto Map is an ancient map , which depicts Salento on a small piece of ostrakon derived from a terracotta vase. Background The map was discovered in Soleto southern Italy by Belgium Belgian archaeologist Thierry van Compernolle of Montpellier University on August 21, 2003. The map itself dates back to 500 BC and contains letters derived from a Greek script . The languages expressed on the map are both Ancient Greek language Greek and Messapian language Messapian . Moreover, the Soleto Map describes the city of Taranto called Taras , as well as other cities of Salento such as Soleto, Santa Maria di Leuca Leuca , Ugento , and Otranto . The map went on public display in 2005 at the Archaeological National Museum of Taranto. Controversy Even though the Soleto Map is considered the oldest map in Western culture Western civilization , there are allegations that it is a forgery. In the January February 2006 issue of the Netherlands Dutch newspaper Geschiedenis Magazine , Dutch archaeologist Douwe Yntema of Vrije University in Amsterdam found the authenticity of the map questionable. Even though the ostrakon is ancient, the authenticity of the engravings are dubious. According to Yntema, the map looks like a school atlas with placenames engraved with north at the top. Moreover, the Soleto Map shows the towns as points rather than house symbols found on other ancient maps. Finally, the engravings follow the precise borders of the ostrakon itself, which can lead anyone to interpret the Soleto Map as being made after the terracotta vase was first broken. In Video game gaming , a random map is a map generated randomness randomly by the computer, usually in Strategy video game strategy games. Random maps are often the core of single and multiplayer gameplay, aside from story based campaigns that are often shipped with the game. Each new game presents an unknown map, providing a new experience to the player, and an even playing field in multiplayer game multiplayer gaming . Random maps typically have a certain theme for example a naval random map with many small islands, or a gold rush map with a large amount of gold in the center of the map. The type of random map may also influence the game s game artificial intelligence artificial intelligence , with the AI employing different strategies optimized for each random map. Methods for generating such maps vary depending upon the topography of the game itself. A game which requires natural landscapes may use fractal subdivision to create convincing terrain, whereas a game set inside a structure such as a dungeon may use two dimensional maze algorithms. Some games allow the players to make their own random map scripts RMS , a form of Mod computer gaming game modification . Random map scripts provide instructions for generating the map, such as terrain types, resource locations, and many other factors. Random maps can also be used by scenario level design designer to unlock previously unavailable units. For example in Age of Kings, designers have used RMS to unlock new terrains and units. The unit terrain combination of fish on shoreless water is one such application of this technique. Another example is Empire Earth , where an unused dark red coloured cliff can be unlocked through a custom random map ...   more details
