    nihongo Maebashi Station Maebashi eki is a train station railway station on the Ry m Line of East Japan Railway Company JR East located in Maebashi, Gunma Maebashi , Gunma Prefecture , Japan . It is one of two main railway stations of Maebashi the other is Ch Maebashi Station of the J m Electric Railway . History The station was opened by Ry m Railway on November 20, 1889. From August 20, 1884, Nippon Railway operated another Maebashi Station on the other side of the Tone River , but this station was closed on December 26, 1889 when a bridge across the river was completed and Nippon Railway trains began sharing the Ry m Railway station. Ry m Railway was merged into Nippon Railway on January 1, 1897 and Nippon Railway was Railway Nationalization Act nationalized on November 1, 1906.     Gunma machi was a towns of Japan town located in Gunma District, Gunma Gunma District , Gunma Prefecture Gunma , Japan . On January 23, 2006 Gunma, along with the towns of Kurabuchi, Gunma Kurabuchi and Misato, Gunma Misato , all from Gunma District, Gunma Gunma District , and the town of Shin, Gunma Shin , from Tano District, Gunma Tano District , was merged into the expanded city of Takasaki, Gunma Takasaki . As of 2005, the town has an estimated population of 36,569 and a population density density of 1,666.77 persons per km . The total area is 21.94 km . Gunma is located in the centre of Gunma Prefecture , and on a gentle slope between the foot of southeast Mt. Haruna and Maebashi plateau. Although J etsu Shinkansen passes the section of Takasaki, there is no station. Also, Kan etsu Expressway passes in the section of Takasaki, but there is no interchange the nearest one is Maebashi IC .
