Details Macintyre was 40 years old, and a major in the Bengal Staff Corps , British Indian Army , and 2nd Gurkha Rifles during the Looshai Expedition , India when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC. On 4 January 1872 during the Looshai Campaign, North East India , Major Macintyre led the assault on the stockaded village of Lalgnoora.
