They built railway wagons and trams tramways from 1862 to 1957. The firm was founded in 1844 by Johann Sch fer in Heidelberg and was sold after his death in 1861 to Heinrich Fuchs, who formed the Waggonfabrik Heinrich Fuchs in 1862. Fuchs moved the factory from the district of Weststadt in Heidelberg to the neighbouring district of Rohrbach completed in 1902 . In addition to railway wagons, in its early days the firm also built bridges and other facilities for the railways. Major customers for its wagons and coaches in the early years were the Baden State Railways . From about 1901 the production of tramways began. Customers included the Elektrische Stra enbahn Heidelberg Wiesloch , Heidelberger Stra en und Bergbahn AG HSB , Oberrheinische Eisenbahn Gesellschaft OEG , Rhein Haardtbahn RHB . His research focuses on nanoscale science and nanotechnology , ranging from scanning probe microscopy to self organized nanostructure fabrication, and nano bio systems. He has published more than 250 scientific articles in various journals as an author or co author. He was awarded the Philip Morris Research Prize Challenge Future in 1994 and the M nsterland Innovation Prize in 2001. He is currently a member of various scientific organizations including the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina . He holds two guest professorships in China .     Richard Fuchs, composer and architect, was born in Karlsruhe , Baden , Germany , on 26 April 1887 and died in Wellington , New Zealand , on 22 September 1947. The football player Gottfried Fuchs was his younger brother. Fuchs was active in the J dische Kulturbund Baden and President of the B Nai Brith Lodge in Karlsruhe in the 1930s. He designed the Gernsbach Synagogue destroyed in Kristallnacht among other buildings, few of which survive. He spent some weeks in Dachau concentration camp before his application to emigrate to New Zealand was accepted, and he did so via England , arriving on 17 April 1939, bringing with him a selection of his compositions, listed below. In Wellington he worked as an architect with Natusch and Sons, then the Housing Department, continued to compose and took an active part in the Wellington music scene.
