Summary This is a bridge across two card towers which I made. The two towers are exactly two card lengths apart. There are about five cards to act as counter weights for the first card that hangs no more than half way over the edge. This was done for both towers then the bridge was extended about an inch at each side by placing two over lapping cards and weighing down only the top one. The new counter weights now being closer to the edge of the tower rather than in the middle of the tower unlike the first one. Then a single central card is held up by the two over lapped cards from each side. In theory the bridge could probably span a distance of three card lengths or more depending on how tightly the cards are held together, and how much they are over lapped. As the weight of the towers begins leaning inward, the counter weights need to be spread out so they balance the opposite side of the tower to keep it stable. Lastly after adding further overlapped support, and the proper balancing at the edges of the bridge, I added central filling cards. In the earliest automotive engines, the valves needed to be removed and the sealing surfaces sanded, ground or lapped multiple times during the life of a typical engine. As the decades passed, however, engines ran cleaner and the addition of tetra ethyl lead in gasoline meant that such maintenance became less frequent. Today, valve jobs are rarely done on passenger cars for the purpose of maintenance, although they are still quite common with high performance cars. The Polish pipes are more related in appearance to some old German pipes. It uses a large goatskin bag hair out and a single reed chanter, cylindrical bore and deep pitch, with a large horn and brass bell at the end. The bass drone typically has the same bell. It is usually bellows blown and produces a mellow, low pitch. A carved goatshead stock similar to the duda is common. The single reeds are often made of a cane blade lapped onto copper tubing. The rabbet allows the boards to overlap in this area. The profile of each board partially overlaps that of the board next to it creating a channel that gives shadow line effects, provides excellent weather protection and allows for dimensional movement. Useful for its strength as a supporting member, and its ability to form a relatively tight seal when lapped, shiplap is usually used as a type of siding for buildings that do not require extensive maintenance and must withstand cold and aggressive climates. Rough sawn shiplap is attached vertically in post and beam construction, usually with 6d 8d common nail fastener nails , while milled versions, providing a tighter seal, are more commonly placed horizontally, more suited to two by four platform framing frame construction . Small doors and shutters such as those found in barns and sheds are often constructed of shiplap cut directly from the walls, with only thin members framing or crossing the back for support. Shiplap is also used indoors for the rough or rustic look that it creates when used as paneling or a covering for a wall or ceiling.
