  1. P1 phage

Taxobox color violet name P1 phage image image width image caption virus group I ordo Caudovirales familia Myoviridae subfamily genus P1 like viruses species P1 Phage P1 is a temperate bacteriophage phage . The P1 phage can be used to create the P1 derived artificial chromosome cloning vector . Life cycle Temperate phage, such as P1, have the ability to exist within the bacteria l Cell biology cell they infect in two different ways. In Lysogenic cycle lysogeny , P1 can exist within a bacterial cell as a circular DNA in that it exists by DNA replication replicating as if it were a plasmid and does not cause cell death. Alternatively, in its Lytic cycle lytic phase, P1 can promote cell lysis during growth resulting in host cell death. During lysogeny new phage particles are not produced. In contrast, during lytic growth many new phage particles are assembled and released from the cell. By alternating between these two modes of infection, P1 can survive during extreme nutritional conditions that may be imposed upon the bacterial host in which it exists. A unique feature of phage P1 is that during lysogeny its genome is not incorporated into the bacterial chromosome as is commonly observed during lysogeny of other bacteriophage. Instead, P1 exists independently within the bacterial cell, much like a plasmid would. P1 replicates as a 90 Base pair kilobase kb plasmid in the lysogenic state and is partitioned equally into two new daughter cells during normal cell division . P1 encodes a site specific recombinase, Cre, that is widely used to promote cell specific or time specific DNA recombination via flanking loxP sites External links http www.expasy.org viralzone all by species 505.html Viralzone P1 like phage Microbiology stub Category Molecular biology Category Bacteriophages ...   more details

  1. T7 phage

Taxobox name Enterobacteria phage T7 virus group I ordo Caudovirales familia Podoviridae subfamily genus T7 like viruses species T7 phage Bacteriophage T7 is a bacteriophage capable of infecting susceptible bacteria l cells. It infects most strains of Escherichia coli including Escherichia coli O157 H7 E. coli O157 H7 , a strain of E. coli which can cause foodborne illness . Virology The virus has complex structural symmetry, with a capsid of the phage that is spherical with an inner diameter of 55  Nanometer nm and a tail 19  nm in diameter and 28.5  nm long attached to the capsid. The head of the phage particle contains the roughly 40 Base pair Length measurements kbp dsDNA genome of T7. ref cite web title Genome of bacteriophage T7 url http www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov nuccore V01146.1 ref Components Gp5 encoded by gene gp5 is T7 phage s DNA polymerase . T7 polymerase uses E. coli s endogenous thioredoxin as a sliding clamp during phage DNA replication though thioredoxin normally has a different function . The sliding clamp functions to hold the polymerase onto the DNA, which increases the rate of synthesis initiation, the process by which a polymerase binds to DNA, is time consuming. The T7 promoter sequence is used extensively in molecular biology due to its extremely high affinity for RNA polymerase and thus high level of expression. Applications in molecular biology T7 has been used as a model in synthetic biology . Chan et al. 2005 refactored the genome of T7, replacing approximately 12 Base pair Length measurements kbp of its genome with engineered DNA. ref cite journal last Chan first Leon Y. authorlink coauthors Kosuri, Sriram Drew Endy Endy, Drew year 2005 month title Refactoring bacteriophage T7 journal Molecular Systems Biology volume 1 issue 1 pages 2005.0018 ... 1. P22 phage

The P22 virus is a lysogenic bacteriophage that infects Salmonella . Its linear, double stranded DNA genome is 44 kilobase s long. Like many phage viruses, it has been used in molecular biology to induce mutations in cultured bacteria and to introduce foreign gene genetic material . ref name Snyder cite book author Snyder L, Champness W title Molecular Genetics of Bacteria edition 3rd publisher ASM Press year 2007 isbn 1555813992 ref The viral capsid has been the subject of studies in virus assembly. Its tailspike protein , which is anchored in the viral coat and used to aid in penetrating the membranes of host cells, has an unusual beta helix fold. When it is ready to leave the cell, it is packaged into its capsid by the headful mechanism, meaning that DNA is packaged into the capsid until it is full. This usually encompasses 48Kb so part of the host DNA is transferred along with the phage. The cell is then lysed, releasing the phage into the environment to infect other cells. 1. Lambda (association)

Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Lambda is an association for gay people in Odense , Denmark , founded 1993 09 11. The community wants to strengthen the identities of gays and lesbians, and work with other gay communities for gay rights . History The Danish National Association of Gays and Lesbians Landsforeningen for B sser og Lesbiske or LBL originally had a local division in Odense, which between 1991 and 1993 hosted the Discotek club and ran the Caf Pan in Sankt Anne Gade in central Odense. When the club was closed down, the whole board resigned in protest, and when the LBL didn t succeed in rebuilding the local division in Odense, a group of people decided to make a new gay community. They founded Lambda on 11 September 1993, after a meeting in Brandts Kl defabrik in Odense. In 1994 Pan Odense had to close again, and a lot of gay people didn t have a place to party. Lambda rented premises in the basement of Vindegade 100, with a caf open on every Friday and Saturday, and a big Rainbowparty every other weekend until June 2005. In June 2005, Lambda had to move, as the building was going to be used for apartments. In October 2007 a new location was found in Odense Centrum.
