  1. Mutus Liber

File Mutus Liber cover.jpg thumb Mutus Liber cover Mutus Liber from lang la Silent Book was an alchemy alchemical text published in France in the later half of the 17th century. It professed to outline, through a series of mystical illustrations, a method of manufacturing the Philosopher s Stone . It was first printed in 1677 at La Rochelle under the editorship of Pierre Savouret. Its authorship, long obscured by abstruse claims and speculation, has been established. He was Isaac Baulot, an apothecary and savant of matters medicinal at La Rochelle , born there in 1612. Scrolls on the last plate of the Mutus Liber bear in awkward Latin the dismissal oculatus abis , having seen thou departest, which almost anagrams the author s name. ref See J. Flouret, propos de l auteur du Mutus Liber , Revue fran aise d histoire du livre, n 11 N.S., Apr. 1. Atropos

Refimprove date October 2011 For other uses, see Atropos disambiguation . File Atropos.jpg thumb right Bas relief of Atropos cutting the thread of life Atropos or Aisa IPAc en icon t r p s lang el without turn , in Greek mythology , was one of the three Moirae , goddesses of wikt fate fate and destiny . Her Roman equivalent was Morta deity Morta . Atropos or Aisa was the oldest of the Three Fates, and was known as the inflexible or inevitable. It was Atropos who chose the mechanism of death and ended the life of each mortal by cutting their thread with her abhorred shears. She worked along with her two sisters, Clotho , who spun the thread, and Lachesis mythology Lachesis , who measured the length. Origin Her origin, along with the other two fates, is uncertain, although some called them the daughters of the night. It is clear, however, that at a certain period they ceased to be only concerned with death and also became those powers who decided what may happen to individuals. Although Zeus was the chief Greek god and their father, he was still subject to the decisions of the Fates, and thus the executor of destiny, rather than its source. According to Hesiod s Theogony , Atropos and her sisters Clotho and Lachesis were the daughters of Nyx mythology Nyx Night , though later in the same work ll. 901 906 they are said to have been born of Zeus and Themis . Medicine Atropos lends her name to the poisonous plant Atropa belladonna or Deadly Nightshade and to the alkaloid atropine , an anticholinergic drug which is derived from it. wikisource Theogony Time in religion and mythology Greek mythology deities Category Greek mythology Category Greek goddesses Category Time and fate goddesses Category Offspring of Zeus br Atropos ca tropos de Atropos el es tropos eu Atropos id Moirai Atropos it Atropo lt Atrop hu Atroposz nl Atropos pl Atropos pt Atropos ro Atropos ru sl Atropa sv Atropos uk zh ...   more details
