History From the 2nd century BC to the 14th century AD, Kalyvia was at various times part of the Roman Empire , Byzantine Empire and the Latin Empire of Constantinople. From the 15th to the 19th centuries, Kalyvia was ruled by the Ottoman Empire Ottoman Turkish people Turks . Kalyvia became liberated and a part of Greece after the Greek War of Independence in the 1820s. History between the Byzantine period and the war of independence was almost unrecorded. Kalyvia adopted its current name in the late 19th century. As the local primary school closed in the 1980s, students from Kalyvia attend primary and secondary school in nearby Vartholomio .
