    Kuria District is an districts of Kenya administrative district in the Nyanza Province of Kenya . Its capital town is Kehancha sometimes spelled as Kihancha . The district has a population of 256,086 2009 census and an area of 581 km . It is inhabited by Kuria ethnic group Kuria people . Kuria district was split into two in December 2007, Kuria West district with Kehancha as the district capital and Kuria East district with Kegonga as the district capital. Kuria West covers three administrative divisions namely Kehancha, Mabera and Masaba Divisions while Kuria East spans the two administrative divisions namely Kegonga and Ntimaru. However one peculiarity is that the two District s have only one local authority, Kehancha municipality and one electoral constituency, Kuria Constituency which is represented in parliament by Dr W.G Machage.     Manasses Kuria born July 22, 1929 in Nairobi , Kenya , was the second African Archbishop and Bishop of Nairobi in the Anglican Church of Kenya . Early life Kuria was brought up by his parents at Kabuku in Limuru , Kiambu District . He first attended St. Paul s School in Limuru in 1933 in 1935 he went to Ngecha School before going to Kabete Mission School in 1938 where he took the Kenya African Preliminary Examination in 1940. At the age of 16 Kuria began a career in teaching between 1945 and 1954 he taught at St. Peter s Wangige school, a mission school, Ngecha Junior High School and Rironi Orthodox School. Ecclesiastical calling After a profound spiritual experience in 1950, Kuria resigned from teaching and took up full time church work. In January 1954, he enrolled in St. Paul s United Theological College, Limuru. Kuria served as a special chaplain and then as an archdeacon, stationed in Eldoret . On April 25, 1970, he was consecrated assistant bishop of the diocese of Nakuru by Archbishop Leonard Beecher , and in January 1976, he was enthroned Bishop of the diocese of Nakuru by Archbishop Festo Olang . On June 29, 1980 at the age of fifty one, Kuria became the second African Anglican Archbishop of Kenya. By the time he retired in 1994, the number of dioceses in Kenya had increased from seven to twenty. After retirement, he started Jehovah Jireh Children homes and schools for the education and pastoral care of poor street children. Kuria s wife, Mary, whom he had married in 1947 ....     Gibson Kamau Kuria Born 3 March 1947 in Mahiga Location, Othaya Division, Nyeri District is a Kenyan lawyer and a recipient of the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award for 1988. Early Education Gibson Kamau Kuria started his formal education at Mahiga Intermediate School from 1954 1961 before going on to high school at Kagumo High School from 1962 1967. Higher education Dr. Kuria graduated in March 1971 with a Bachelor of Laws degree Upper Division at the then University of East Africa , University College, Dar es Salaam , Tanzania. He then pursued a Bachelor of Civil Law at the Oxford University. He was awarded the Doctorate of Laws by Lewis & Clark Law School , Oregon, USA because of his human rights work. This word is derived from the Sanskrit senanayaka, which means head of a regiment.
