William Gordon was the only son of Alexander Gordon, 5th Viscount of Kenmure and succeeded his father on his death in 1698, but was not able to inherit his family s property until 1700, because of a protracted law suit. Not initially an active supporter of the exiled House of Stuart Stuarts , Lord Kenmure became the leader of the Scottish Lowlands Lowlands nobles, who opposed the Acts of Union 1707 Act of Union in 1701. John de Welles, 1stViscount Welles , Knight of the Garter KG c. 1450 &ndash 9 February 1498, London was an English House of Lancaster Lancastrian Nobleman who was made a Knight of the Garter . John was born about 1450 to Lionel de Welles, 6th Baron Welles and Margaret Beauchamp of Bletso Margaret Beauchamp . He was a maternal half brother of Lady Margaret Beaufort Margaret Beaufort , and thus an uncle of the half blood of Henry VII of England Henry VII . War of the Roses His father Lionel de Welles was killed at Towton in 1461 and his elder half brother Richard de Welles, 7th Baron Welles Richard became the 7th Baron however he was beheaded in 1470. Richard s son and heir Robert de Welles, 8th Baron Welles Robert, 8th Baron was also executed. The attainder of those two prevented John the younger son of Lionel to the barony. John Tracy, 1stViscount Tracy died 1648 was an English landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons of England House of Commons from 1597. Tracy was the son and heir of Sir John Tracy who was High Sheriff of Gloucestershire in 1578. He was admitted to the Inner Temple in November 1580, and granted special livery of his father s estates on 14 February 1592. In 1597, he was elected Member of Parliament for Gloucestershire UK Parliament constituency Gloucestershire . He was probably knighted by James I on 23 July, 1603. In 1609, he was High Sheriff of Gloucestershire .
