Calculus cTopic Differentiation In differential calculus , related rates problems involve finding a rate at which a quantity changes by Equation relating that quantity to other quantities whose rates of change are known. The rate of change is usually with respect to time . Because science and engineering often relate quantities to each other, the methods of related rates have broad applications in these fields. Because problems to which related rate methods apply often have nested functions, solving these problems often requires application of the chain rule . Procedure The most common way to approach related rates problems is the following Identify the known Variable mathematics variables , including rates of change and the rate of change that is to be found. Drawing a picture or representation of the problem can help to keep everything in order Construct an equation relating the quantities whose rates of change are known to the quantity whose rate of change is to be found. Derivative Differentiate both sides of the equation with respect to time or other rate of change . Often, the chain rule is employed at this step. Substitute the known rates of change and the known quantities into the equation. Solve for the wanted rate of change. Errors in this procedure are often caused by plugging in the known values for the variables before rather than after finding the derivative with respect to time. Doing so will yield an incorrect result, since if you plug in the values for the variables, those variables will become constants and when you differentiate the equation, you will end ... 600px middle The four corner approach to solving related rates problems. Orphan date February 2009 Internet Config was an Internet preferences manager and API for Mac OS Classic . It was originally developed by Quinn The Eskimo , Peter N Lewis and Marcus Jager and released in 1994 into the public domain . It was later bundled by Apple Inc. . Internet Config s purpose was to consolidate what was, at the time, an unwieldy number of options and settings related to Internet use that hadn t yet been integrated into the operating system s own control panel. Some settings were for a systemwide default web browser, home page, default ftp client, systemwide default download folder, and email settings. Internet Config represented an important ease of use advantage for the Macintosh platform on the early Internet. The software consisted of two pieces, the Internet Config control panel which was actually just a normal application, and an appe extension that launched at boot time but didn t patch any system traps. Internet Config enabled the ability for applications to support command clicking of URLs and have the URLs sent to the user selected application. For example, http URLs would be sent to the selected web browser, ftp URLs to the selected FTP client, mailto URLs to the selected Email application, and so on. The public domain nature of the project and the tight Internet community in the late 1990s led to the rapid adoption of the facility, and then to Apple bundling it as part of Mac OS .
