  1. Illicit major

Illicit major is a logical fallacy committed in a categorical syllogism that is validity invalid because its major term is Distribution of terms undistributed in the major premise but distributed in the conclusion. This fallacy has the following argument form All A are B No C are A Therefore, no C are B Example All cats are mammals No dogs are cats Therefore, no dogs are mammals In this argument, the major term is mammals . This is distributed in the conclusion the last statement because we are making a claim about a property of all mammals that they are not cats. However, it is not distributed in the major premise the first statement where we are only talking about a property of some mammals Only some mammals are dogs. The error is in assuming that the converse of the first statement that all mammals are dogs is also true. Illicit minor is a logical fallacy committed in a categorical syllogism that is validity invalid because its minor term is distribution of terms undistributed in the minor premise but distributed in the conclusion. This fallacy has the following argument form All A are B. All A are C. Therefore, all C are B. Example All cats are felines. All cats are mammals. Therefore, all mammals are felines. The minor term here is mammal , which is not distributed in the minor premise All cats are mammals, because this premise is only defining a property of possibly some mammals i.e., that they re cat s. However, in the conclusion All mammals are felines, mammal is distributed it is talking about all mammals being felines . It is shown to be false by any mammal that is not a Felidae feline for example, a dog . Example Pie is good. Pie is unhealthy. Thus, all good things are unhealthy. 1. Illicit financial flows

Illicit financial flows , in economics , refers to a form of illegal capital flight and occurs when money is illegally earned, transferred, or utilized. This money is intended to disappear from any record in the country of origin, and earnings on the stock of illicit financial flows outside of a country do not normally return to the country of origin. Illicit financial flows can be generated through a number of means that are not revealed in national accounts or balance of payments figures, including trade mispricing, bulk cash movements, hawala transactions, smuggling and more. ref http www.csis.org media csis events 070628 IllicitFinancialFlows Panel 1.m3u CSIS and GFI Conference Illicit Financial Flows The Missing Link in Development Panel 1 What is Known About Illicit Financial Flows .m3u format ref Although the term illicit financial flows is closely related to capital flight , they differ in one major respect. Capital flight is an expression that places virtually the whole of the problem upon the developing countries out of which the money comes. It suggests, without quite saying so, that it is almost entirely their responsibility to address and resolve the concern. The expression illicit financial flows does a better job of clarifying that this phenomenon is a two way street. There are several economic models used to provide estimates of illicit financial flows and capital flight. The two most common methods are the World Bank Residual Model and the DOTS based Trade Mispricing Model, which uses the IMF s Direction of Trade Statistics DOTS database to analyze discrepancies in trade statistics between partner countries.
