In the case of the United States Postal Service s First Class Mail it is generally for a period of one year. British Royal Mail provides a service called Mail Redirection , enabling redirection for up to two years. Customers of such a service usually, but not exclusively, use mail forwarding when they change addresses. 1. Bulk mail

Bulk mail broadly refers to mail that is mailed and processed in bulk at reduced rates. The term does not denotation denote any particular purpose for the mail but in general usage is synonymous with junk mail. As an example, in the United States , the United States Postal Service USPS defines bulk mail broadly as quantities of mail prepared for mailing at reduced postage rates. The preparation includes presorting and placing into containers by ZIP code . The containers, along with a manifest, are taken to an area in a post office called a bulk mail entry unit. The presorting and the use of containers allow highly automated processing of the mail, both in bulk and piecewise, in processing facilities called bulk mail centers BMCs . In 2009, the USPS announced plans to streamline sorting and delivery, which would recast the BMCs as Network Distribution Centers . ref http parcelindustry.com ME2 dirmod.asp?sid 23C6283BD51B46348B616C079EEB2E21&nm Miscellaneous&type Publishing&mod Publications Article&mid 8F3A7027421841978F18BE895F87F791&tier 4&id 594390D32C4C40F988FAD341592D70E5 Postal Service to Revamp Bulk Mail Center Network Parcel, February 25 2009 ref ref http www.postalreporternews.net 2009 02 26 changes in store for postal bulk mail center network Changes In Store For Postal Bulk Mail Center Network PostalReporter News Blog, February 26 2009 ref Junk mail main Advertising mail Although bulk mail, junk mail and admail are, strictly speaking, not synonymous, the terms are used in common parlance to refer to unsolicited invitations delivered by mail typically, but not invariably, at bulk rates to homes and businesses. about mail carrying aircraft the Mac OS X e mail client Mailplane software File De Havilland twin engine airmail plane in snow storm, 1920.jpg thumb Keystone B 6 of the US Army Air Corps, 1934 File Model40.jpg thumb 1920s Boeing Model 40 mail plane A mail plane is an aircraft used for carrying mail . Aircraft that were purely mail planes existed almost exclusively prior to World War II . Because early aircraft were too underpowered to carry cargoes, and too costly to run any economy class passenger carrying service, the main civilian role for aircraft was to carry letters faster than previously possible. In 1934, some mail services in the USA were operated by the United States Army Air Corps , soon ending in the Air Mail scandal . ref http www.antiqueairfield.com features us airmail.html ref In the past, mail carrying aircraft had to carry a special official emblem on the fuselages in case of British registered aircraft, a special Royal Air Mail pennant a blue triangular flag with a crowned bugle instrument bugle emblem in yellow and the letters ROYAL AIR MAIL in white would sometimes be flown as well. From the late 1940s, mail planes became increasingly rare, as the increasing size of aircraft and economics dictated a move towards bulk carriage of mail onboard airline flights, and this remains the primary method today. Parcel mail, overnight mail and priority mail, however, are still carried aboard what may be considered the spiritual successors of classic, pre war mail planes small, general aviation aircraft that have been adapted to the role, with the Cessna 208 and Piper PA 31 Navajo being among the most popular. Cargo airline operators, such as United Parcel Service UPS and FedEx , also carry mail along with bulk cargo, aboard converted airliners.
