  1. Ceramic discharge metal-halide lamp

The ceramic discharge metal halide CDM lamp , mostly referred to as Ceramic Metal Halide lamp CMH , is a relatively new source of light that is a variation of the old high pressure mercury vapour lamp . The discharge is contained in a ceramic tube. During operation, the temperature of this ceramic tube can exceed 1200 kelvin s. The ceramic tube is filled with mercury element mercury , argon and metal halide metal halide salt s. Because of the high wall temperature, the metal halide salts are partly vaporized. Inside the hot plasma physics plasma , these salts are dissociated into metallic atoms and iodine. The metallic atoms are the main source of light in these lamps, creating a bluish light that is close to daylight with a color rendering index CRI color rendering index of up to 96. The exact correlated color temperature and CRI depend on the specific mixture of metal halide salts. There are also warm white CDM lamps, with somewhat lower CRI 78 82 which still give a more clear and natural looking light than the old mercury vapour and sodium vapour lamps when used as street lights, besides being more economical to use. CDM lamps use one fifth of the power of comparable tungsten incandescent light bulb s for the same light output 80 117 lm W and retain colour stability better than most other gas discharge lamps. Applications for these lamps include television and film making as well as shop lighting, digital photography , street and architectural lighting . 1. High intensity magnetic separator

Multiple issues unreferenced February 2008 orphan February 2009 lead missing September 2010 Introduction In the recent past the problem of removing the deleterious iron particles from a process stream had a few alternatives. Magnetic separation was typically limited and moderately effective. Magnetic separators that used permanent magnets could generate fields of low intensity only. These worked well in removing ferrous tramp but not fine paramagnetic particles. Thus high field strength intensity magnetic separators that were effective in collecting paramagnetic particles came into existence. These focus on the separation of very fine particles that are paramagnetic. The electric current current is passed through the coil, which creates a magnetic field, which magnetizes the expanded steel matrix ring. The matrix material being paramagnetic behaves like a magnet in the magnetic field and thereby attracts the fines. The ring is rinsed when it is in the magnetic field and all the non magnetic particles are carried with the rinse water. Next as the ring leaves the magnetic zone the ring is flushed and a vacuum of about 0.3 bars is applied to remove the magnetic particles attached to the matrix ring. Standard operating procedure High Gradient Magnetic Separator is to separate magnetic & non magnetic particles concentrate & tails from the feed slurry . This feed comes from intermediate thickener underflow pump through Linear Screen & Passive Matrix. Tailings go to tailing thickener & product goes to throw launder through vacuum tanks Category Industrial processes Category Separation processes Category Magnetic devices ru ...   more details

  1. High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area

The High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program HIDTA is a drug prohibition enforcement program run by the Executive Office of the President United States Office of National Drug Control Policy . It was established in 1990 after the Anti Drug Abuse Act of 1988 was passed. The mission of the program is to enhance and coordinate America s drug control efforts among local, state and FBI Federal law enforcement agencies in order to eliminate or reduce drug trafficking and its harmful consequences in critical regions of the United States. The term HIDTA also refers to each geographic location, usually a major city or border crossing, in which the program has established a headquarters. These headquarters are placed in locations considered to be major drug trafficking zones. The five HIDTA offices along the United States Mexico border are grouped into a single Southwest Border HIDTA unit. 28 HIDTAs have been designated since the program began. Each HIDTA is governed by a HIDTA Executive Board which includes representatives of local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in the area of the HIDTA. By law, each HIDTA Board is equally divided between federal law enforcement on the one side and state and local agencies on the other. 1. Resource intensity

Resource intensity is a measure of the resource s e.g. water , energy , materials needed for the production, processing and disposal of a unit of good economics good or service economics service , or for the completion of a process or activity it is therefore a measure of the Efficient energy use efficiency of resource use. It is often expressed as the quantity of resource embodied in unit cost e.g. litres of water per 1 spent on product. In national economic and sustainability accounting it can be calculated as units of resource expended per unit of GDP . When applied to a single person it is expressed as the resource use of that person per unit of consumption.Relatively high resource intensities indicate a high price or environmental cost of converting resource into GDP low resource intensity indicates a lower price or environmental cost of converting resource into GDP. ref Lorentzen, J. ed 2008. Resource intensity, knowledge and development insights from Africa and South America. HSRC Press, South Africa. ISBN 100 7969 2213 6 ISBN 13978 07969 2213 7 ref Resource productivity and resource intensity are key concepts used in sustainability measurement as they measure attempts to decouple the connection between resource use and environmental degradation . Their strength is that they can be used as a metric for both economic and environmental cost. Although these concepts are two sides of the same coin, in practice they involve very different approaches and can be viewed as reflecting, on the one hand, the efficiency of resource production as outcome per unit of resource use resource productivity and, on the other hand, the efficiency of resource consumption as resource use per unit outcome resource intensity . The sustainability objective is to maximize resource productivity while minimizing resource intensity.
