  1. Humanistic economics

Humanistic economics is a school of economic theory identified with E. F. Schumacher . Proponents argue for humanity first economic theories as opposed to the ideas in mainstream economic theory which they see as putting financial gain before people. Call a thing immoral or ugly, soul destroying or a degradation of man, a peril to the peace of the world or to the well being of future generations as long as you have not shown it to be uneconomic you have not really questioned its right to exist, grow, and prosper. E. F. Schumacher Humanistic economics has been defined as a perspective that leans heavily on humanistic psychology, moral philosophy, humanistic sociology, and last but not least, on common sense. In more formal terms, contemporary humanistic economics seeks to both describe, analyze and critically assess prevailing socio economic institutions and policies, and provide normative value guidelines on how to improve them in terms of human not merely economic welfare. Basic human needs, human rights, human dignity, human equality, freedom, economic democracy and economic sustainability provide the framework . ref http www.Humanisticeconomics.net humanisticeconomics.net ref Humanistic economics focuses on human economic activity as being social and altruism altruistically constructed, not just individualism individualistically and selfishly derived. The importance of the ethical individual living within a vibrant local community, not merely as a lone wolf nor as a consumer of mass culture and production on a global scale, is often stressed. The importance of accounting for externality externalities items not always put on the economic balance sheet like pollution or loss of biodiversity are other key concepts. 1. Surplus economics

Heterodox economics ...Surplus economics is the study of economics based upon the concept that economies operate on the basis of the production of a surplus over basic needs. Economic Surplus By economic surplus is meant all production which is not essential for the continuance of existence. That is to say, all production about which there is a choice as to whether or not it is produced. The economic surplus begins when an economy is first able to produce more than it needs to survive, a surplus to its essentials. This definition is no more arbitrary than defining all resources as scarce by definition by declaring all wants infinite. tool Reflist 2 DEFAULTSORT Structuralist Economics Category Development economics Category Development Category Development studies Category Economic development Category Heterodox economics es ...Structuralist economics originated with the work of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean Economic Commission for Latin America ECLA or CEPAL and is primarily associated with its director Raul Prebisch and Brazilian economist Celso Furtado . Key to structuralist analysis is the idea that the structural features of developing economies need to be taken into account. Early structuralist models emphasised external and internal disequilibria arising from the productive structure and its interactions with the dependent relationship developing countries had with the developed world. The alleged declining terms of trade of the developing countries, the Prebisch Singer thesis Prebisch Singer hypothesis , played a key role in this. ref Palma, J.G. 1987 . structuralism, The New Palgrave A Dictionary of Economics , v. 4, pp. 527 531. ref Dutt and Ros 2003, p55 argue that structuralist economists try to identify specific rigidities, lags as well as other characteristics of the structure of developing countries in order to assess the way economies adjust and their responsiveness to development policies. A normal assumption within this approach is that the price mechanism fails as an equilibrating mechanism, to deliver steady growth, to produce a desired income distribution. ref Dutt, Amitava Krishna and Ros, Jaime 2003 Development Economics and Structuralist ...,F. 1994 Economics of Change in Less Developed Countries, Harvester Wheatsheaf ref reports Bitar ... component of structural change.
