Herman Cake is a pass along sourdough cake which continues to grow as it contains yeast . This acts like a Chain email chain letter and could in theory continue forever. Herman sits on the worktop for ten days altogether, and due to the amount of yeast that it contains, smells distinctly of beer . The Herman cake can breathe when covered loosely with a tea towel and left out on the worktop and stirred occasionally. This breathing occurs because of the yeast in the Herman cake, and the cake mixture bubbles frequently. When a person receives Herman from a friend, he will be presented to them in a small plastic tub along with a set of instructions to guide this person through the next ten days with the Herman cake mixture. On the ninth day, Herman is divided into four equal parts and three of these parts are passed along to friends. The last quarter is kept and on the tenth day is cooked. Many ingredients can be added to Herman before the Procedure term procedure of cooking the Herman cake. Heijermans grew up in a liberal Jews Jewish family as the fifth of 11 children of Herman Heijermans Sr. and Matilda Moses Spiers. In the Algemeen Handelsblad daily, he published a series of sketches of Jewish family life under the pseudonym of Samuel Falkland , which were collected in volume form. His novels and tales include Trinette 1892 , Fles 1893 , Kamertjeszonde 2 vols, 1896 , Interieurs 1897 , Diamantstad 2 vols, 1903 . He created great interest by his play Op Hoop van Zegen 1900 , an indictment of the exploitation of sea fishermen in the Netherlands at the turn of the century, represented at the Th tre Antoine in Paris , and in English by the Stage Society as The Good Hope .
