Peter of Blois or Petrus Blesensis c. 1135 &ndash c. 1211 was a France French poet and diplomat who wrote in Latin . Peter studied law in Bologna and theology in Paris. It was probably during his student years that he composed a number of Latin sequence poetry sequence s after the manner of the Goliard s, some of which were preserved in the Carmina Burana collection. Gervase of Blois was the Abbot of Westminster in England between c.1138 to c.1157. Historically Gervase has had a bad reputation for mismanaging the abbey, although modern historians have re evaluated his performance as abbot. Theobald inherited amongst others the counties of Blois, Tours , Chartres . Chateaudun and Sancerre , and also in Champagne province Champagne Ch teau Thierry , Provins and St. Florentin . His brother Stephen II of Troyes Stephen inherited the counties of Meaux, Troyes and Vitry le Fran ois . Theobald conspired against the king of France Henry I of France Henry I , was beaten in 1044 and had to give up the county of Tours to regain his freedom. From then on the centre of power for the House of Blois moved to Champagne. Theobald found ways to become close to the royal court again and gain influence.
