    Infobox park name Henry Hudson Park photo Henry Hudson column jeh.JPG type Urban park location The Bronx in New York City , New York created 1938 operator New York City Department of Parks and Recreation Henry Hudson Park is a small park in the Spuyten Duyvil, Bronx, New York Spuyten Duyvil section of Bronx The Bronx . The park is named after famed England English explorer Henry Hudson , who is also the namesake of the nearby Hudson River and Henry Hudson Parkway . In 1906 it was decided to dedicate a monument celebrating the 300th anniversary of Hudson s arrival in what later became Lower New York Bay . The project encountered multiple delays, but in 1912 a large Doric order Doric column was set in place. Shortly afterwards, however, funds for the project ran out. The project was revived by Robert Moses in the late 1930s. By 1938, the area around the monument had been designated as a park and a statue of Henry Hudson had been placed atop the column. The park underwent major renovations in 1989 and 1995, mainly due to the efforts of local community activist Paul Cymerman http www.shalomriverdale.org section.html?id 30 . For his dedication and volunteerism, a small playground area of the park was renamed Paul s Park in 2003, the only New York City park to be named for a living person. After his death in 2004, the local community continued his efforts to keep the park safe and clean.     Henry Elliott Hudson 1798 1889 was an Music of Ireland Irish Music Collecting collector . Life Hudson was born the son of the eminent dentist Edward Hudson dentist Edward and during adulthood practiced as surgeon dentist at 71 Patrick Street, Cork city Cork , though his main interest lay in Irish Music. At the age of 14, Hudson transcribed the manuscripts of his teacher Edward O Reill. Between 1841 43 he edited the literary magazine The Citizen , publishing 106 tunes from his own collection, which grew to 870 by his death. In 1901 his collection was privately sold, though is now publicly available at the National Library of Ireland , the Boston Public Library , and the University of Notre Dame , Indiana.     Sir Henry Hudson Kitson , often known as H. H. Kitson , American sculptor, born in Huddersfield , England on April 9, 1865 and died at Tyringham, Massachusetts Tyringham , Massachusetts , on June 26, 1947. His student and wife Theo Alice Ruggles Kitson was also a sculptor. Harry, as he was known by his numererous brothers and sisters, migrated to the United States about 1880 where he was employed by his oldest brother John William Kitson . William Kitson was in business with another Englishman Robert Ellin their firm, Ellin & Kitson , were identified as architectural sculptors. They specialized in interior carving and wood work in commercial structures and churches. Some buildings they worked on were the Equitable Building, the Tilden Mansion, the Astor Memorial Redos and the William K. Vanderbilt House. Harry and Samuel James Kitson the next oldest brother were both employed by Ellin and Kitson doing sculptural work. According to family oral history, William now quite successful encouraged and financially provided for Harry Kitson to move to Paris where he studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts under the sculptor Jean Marie Bonnassieux . The Hudson Theatre is a former Broadway theatre Broadway theater located at 141 West 44th Street, in midtown Manhattan , New York . Today the Hudson functions as a conference center and television studio. It is owned by Millennium & Copthorne Hotels . History The theater was designed by architects J.B. McElfatrick, Israels & Harder in 1903. It was built by theatrical producer Henry B. Harris and was managed by his wife after his death on the RMS Titanic RMS Titanic . From the 1930s through the 1950s the theater was used as a radio and television studio. The theater was owned by NBC in the 1950s, and in 1954 was home to the original version of The Tonight Show with host Steve Allen . Bought by developer Abraham Hirschfeld in 1956, and after returning to use as a legitimate theater in the 1960s, in 1974 it was converted into a movie house. Finally, in 1980 it became the Savoy rock club. In 1987, the building received landmark status.
