At the time, research in small caliber military cartridges had become more popular thanks to the United States adoption and combat use of the M16 rifle M16 and its 5.56 mm round. Fact date May 2007 The HK36 rifle fired a 4.6x36mm spoon point L ffelspitz round designed by CETME s Dr. Gunther Voss. Low bullet weight and the straight line layout of the rifle reduced recoil . The high velocity of the round gave it an almost flat trajectory out to 300 meters 1000 feet , which was also the limit of its effective range. Beyond that point, the bullet lost velocity very quickly. The HK36 used H&K s Blowback arms delayed blowback system, and reloading was accomplished by inserting a pre packaged box of cartridges into the open side of the permanently mounted Magazine firearms magazine . An unusual departure from modern systems, the concept was intended to reduce weight along with eliminating the handling of individual rounds. Despite never being accepted for military service, the rifle was notable for introducing the three round burst concept and integrated optics. The various innovations gave H&K some interesting ideas for the future, which have resurfaced in the Heckler & Koch MP7 PDW and Heckler & Koch G36 G36 rifle. The HK P2A1 is a single shot , break action flare pistol designed for signaling and illumination purposes. It can fire either 26.5 mm or 25 mm flares, or smoke cartridges. Adapters are available to use commercial 12 gauge flares available at sporting goods stores. The body of the weapon is mostly polymer composite, with the barrel and breech being made of steel. Very rugged and simply designed, the P2A1 has a life expectancy of about 1500 shots of full power flares. Past that point, barrel erosion makes the weapon unsafe. Fact date November 2007 The P2A1 is in use in the German army, called SigPi short for Signalpistole or signal handgun External links http www.heckler koch.de HKWebText detailProd 1929 118 4 16 Official P2A1 page HK firearms Category Heckler & Koch Category Flare guns de HK P2A1 it Heckler & Koch P2A1 ... more details
