  1. Critical habitat

Critical habitat is a habitat area essential to the conservation of a listed species , though the area need not actually be occupied by the species at the time it is designated. This is a specific term and designation within the U.S. Endangered Species Act ESA ref P.L. 93 205 ref Designation process Critical habitat must be designated for all threatened species and endangered species under the Endangered Species Act, with certain specified exceptions. Designations of critical habitats must be based on the best scientific information available in an open public process within specific timeframes. Considerations Before designating critical habitat, careful consideration must be given to the economic impacts, impacts on national security, and other relevant impacts of specifying any particular area as critical habitat. 1. Sustainable habitat

A sustainable habitat is an ecosystem that produces food and shelter for people and other organisms, without resource depletion and in such a way that no external waste is produced. Thus the habitat can continue into future time without external infusions of resource. Such a sustainable habitat may evolve naturally or be produced under the influence of man such as a restored biosphere . A sustainability sustainable habitat that is created and designed by human intelligence will mimic nature, if it is to be successful. Everything within it is connected to a complex array of organisms, physical resources and functions. Organisms from many different Biome biomes can be brought together to fulfill various ecological niches. Often the term refers to sustainable Category Human habitats human habitat s, which typically involve some form of green building or environmental planning . In creating the sustainable habitats, environmental scientist s, designers, engineers and architecture architects must consider no element as a waste product to be disposed of somewhere off site, but as a nutrient stream for another process to feed on. Researching ways to interconnect waste streams to production creates a more sustainable society by minimizing pollution . People are encouraged by seed companies to grow their more efficient crops which represent a small Genetics genetic pool. Fewer farmers are now growing traditional varieties that have co evolved to suit a particular locale. Biodiversity is a key element of a sustainable habitat. 1. Insect Habitat

The Insect Habitat was a science payload intended for the International Space Station as part of the Space Station Biological Research Program SSBRP . The insect research element of the program was managed by the Canadian Space Agency , and the prime contractor for the Insect Habitat was Routes AstroEngineering , of Ottawa, Ontario. The habitat would have housed six separate colonies of Drosophila fruit flies . Each of these was divided into two compartments, separated by a rotating food cartridge. Fruit flies, which have a short life cycle, tend to lay their eggs in their food supply, to provide their offspring with a source of nourishment after hatching. After the eggs were laid, the food cartridge would be rotated, segregating the generations of flies so they could be studied separately. Multigenerartional studies were possible in this way, if each generation was removed from the colony before its offspring s eggs were ready to be segregated. The Insect Habitat was unique among those in the SSBRP in that it contained its own centrifuge to simulate gravity for the flies, and did not require use of the full size centrifuge to be provided on station. The project was put on hold when Space Shuttle flights were interrupted after the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster destruction of Orbiter Columbia in February 2003. 1. Backyard Habitat

Backyard Habitat is an United States American television program about visiting families and amending backyards for the National Wildlife Federation . The show takes the form of a DIY style program, with tips that are, it is suggested, easy for most viewers to achieve on their own. Within each episode, the hosts center on attracting a few specific varieties of wildlife birds, animals, and insects at the conclusion, the family is presented with a plaque, usually placed in the garden by the hosts, stating that the yard is now recognized by the NWF as a backyard habitat . It is hosted by Molly Pesce AKA Molly Scott and David Mizejewski, a representative of the NWF. It is shown on the channel Animal Planet . Each episode runs approximately 30 minutes including commercials . It was produced by RIVR Media . Show structure Beginning The hosts introduce themselves and briefly explain the concept of the show and its mission to create an backyard habitat , officially recognized by the National Wildlife Federation, and introduce the family whose yard they are going to transform. Middle While David Mizejewski, the male co host, helps the father of the household with the majority of the gruntwork, Molly Pesce and the mother of the household usually along with the children head to talk to a ranger, scientist, or some sort of expert on at least one of the species of wildlife they are hoping to attract with their modified yard or garden. Conclusion The hosts and family conclude working on the yard, at which point shortly thereafter the family is presented with an NWF Backyard Wildlife Habitat plaque. The hosts then invite the audience to view the garden, at which point various shots of the modified yard or garden are shown before and during the list of credits. 1. Nursery habitat

In marine environments, a nursery Habitat ecology habitat is a subset of all habitats where juveniles of a species occur, having a greater level of productivity per unit area than other juvenile habitats Beck et al. 2001 . Mangroves, salt marshes and seagrass are typical nursery habitats for a range of marine species. Some species will use nonvegetated sites, such as Yellow Eyed Mullet, Blue Sprat and Flounder. Overview The nursery habitat hypothesis states that the contribution per unit area of a nursery habitat is greater than for other habitats used by juveniles for the species. Productivity may be measured by density, survival, growth and movement to adult habitat Beck et al. 2001 . There are two general models for the location of juvenile habitats within the total range for a species which reflect life history strategies of the species. These are the Classic Concept Juveniles and Adults in separate habitats. Juveniles migrate to adult habitat. General Concept overlap of juvenile and adult habitats. Some marine species do not have juvenile habitats, e.g. arthropods and scallops. Commonly fish, ells, some lobsters, blue crabs and so forth do have distinct juvenile habitats, whether with or without overlap with adult habitats. In terms of management, use of the nursery role hypothesis may be limiting as it excludes some potentially important nursery sites. In these cases the Effective Juvenile Habitat concept may be more useful. This defines a nursery as that which supplies a higher percentage of individuals to adult populations.
