Members South East Sac County Manson Northwest Webster Prairie Valley High School Prairie Valley Pochahontas Area Pomeroy Palmer Southeast Webster Grand South Central Calhoun North Alta Aurelia Laurens Marathon Newell Fonda Sioux Central Storm Lake St. Mary s History The Twin Lakes conference was founded by at least the 1960s. The league s early lineup was the following Laurens Marathon Pocahontas Rolfe Gilmore City Bradgate Twin Rivers of Bode Rockwell City Manson Albert City Truesdale Over time all of the members merged with other nearby schools. The league also added Sac City, as smaller schools like Twin Rivers and Gilmore City Bradgate left the conference. After Albert City Truesdale left the conference in the mid 80s, the league added Prairie Valley and Lake City Lohrville which became Southern Cal . In 1991, the league added Alta Aurelia and WLVA. In 1995, Alta Aurelia and Sac City left the conference to help found the Northwest Conference. In 2004, Southeast Webster Grand was added to the conference from the recently disbanded North Star Conference.     The Lakes Conference is a high school athletic conference whose members are located in mid sized cities in northwest Iowa . Most of the schools are located in their respective county seats . The conference s current lineup consists of 8 schools, all of which compete at either the 2A or 3A level. Most of the schools were once in the highest level of classification for the Iowa High School Athletic Association , but with 4A splitting off in the 1980s, they were no longer in the highest class. In addition, most of the schools are seeing their enrollment decline. As recently as 5 years ago seven of the league s schools were 3A, the second highest class in Iowa, with the rest being 2A. Now only 3 of the 8 members remain at the 3A level, although Storm Lake is the fourth biggest 3A school, behind Boone, Oskaloosa and Norwalk, and a jump to 4A seems to be around the corner.
