George IV of the UnitedKingdom has been depicted many times in popular culture. Literature George IV appears as a character in Rodney Stone by Arthur Conan Doyle 1896 , where he is shown as an irresponsible spendthrift, wildly self indulgent and given to self delusion, but not without some kindly impulses. A more recent portrayal is that in Bernard Cornwell s novel Sharpe s Regiment novel Sharpe s Regiment , which is set during the Regency period here he is portrayed as fat, extravagant and possibly suffering from the same insanity which had afflicted his father. He is an enthusiastic fan of Richard Sharpe s military exploits, and claims to have been present at the Battle of Talavera and to have helped Sharpe capture a French standard. In the novel s historical note, Cornwell said he based the remark on an historical incident when George, during a dinner party at which Wellington was present, claimed to have led a charge at Waterloo. ref According to The private letters of Princess Lieven to Prince Metternich, 1820 1826 edited by Quennell 1937 the King merely pretended to have fought at Waterloo disguised as Eberhardt George Otto Von Bock General Bock to annoy the Duke of Wellington. ref George IV appears as a character in The Regency , Volume 13 of The Morland Dynasty , a series of historical novels by author Cynthia Harrod Eagles . Orphan att March 2011 King GeorgeVI Falls , also known as Salto Oshi, is located on the Oshi River in eastern Guyana . Its height has often been reported to be 1,600 feet, and that figure has been published many times over several decades, but it is greatly exaggerated. The error may have originated with a measurement in feet being mistaken for a measurement in meters. The falls height has not been reliably determined, but is believed to be between about 500 and 700 feet. Though it is not as tall as it has long been thought to be, its combination of height and great volume of water, along with its being a sheer plunge, make it one of the world s most impressive waterfalls. The falls were reportedly discovered in 1938 by Danish scientist Paul A. Zaul .
