  1. G-H (navigation)

G H was a radio navigation system developed by Great Britain Britain during World War II to aid RAF Bomber Command . G H was a two station radio direction finder system. Instruments in the bomber measured its position from one station and distance from another. It could be used by up to 80 bombers from any one pair of stations. By using more than one pair of stations, multiple targets could be attacked at the same time without the aid of pathfinders and markers. Once a major part of Bomber Command was fitted with the technology, G H became a most useful blind bombing device. G H was used for the first time on the night of 4 5 October 1943 when one De Havilland Mosquito Mosquito attacked Aachen the trial was not a success. The second trial was on the night of 16 17 October 1943 when nine Mosquitos attacked Dortmund , one was carrying out a G H trial but its equipment failed and it had to bomb by dead reckoning . It was used for the first time in a large raid on the Mannesmann steel works at D sseldorf on the night of 1 2 November when about half of the sets failed leaving only 15 aircraft to bomb the factory on G H. ref http www.raf.mod.uk bombercommand oct43.html History of Bomber Command in October 1943 , from the RAF website. ref ref http www.raf.mod.uk bombercommand nov43.html History of Bomber Command in November 1943 , from the RAF website. ref Development history Along with the range restriction, an earlier system called Oboe navigation Oboe , had another limitation it could ... up with a new scheme named G H also given as GEE H based on exactly the same logic, differing only ... at one time. 1. H. G. Wells (crater)

lunar crater data latitude 40.7 N or S N longitude 122.8 E or W E diameter 114 km depth Unknown colong 239 eponym H. G. Wells H. G. Wells is a Moon lunar Impact crater crater that is located on the Far side Moon far side of the Moon , behind the northeastern limb. It lies to the south of the crater Millikan crater Millikan , and to the northeast of Cantor crater Cantor . Just to the southeast is the smaller Tesla crater Tesla . This large formation is most notable for the extremely battered state of its outer rim. Little or nothing remains of the original rim, so completely has it been eroded and incised by smaller craters. As a result the crater floor is now surrounded by a ring of irregular peaks and worn crater valleys. This rugged surroundings intrudes only part way into the interior, while the remaining floor is relatively level and in some places gently rolling. The interior is marked only by a multitude of tiny craterlets. The writer H.G.Wells won the right to have a Moon crater named after him by his well known science fiction novel The First Men in the Moon . Satellite craters By convention these features are identified on lunar maps by placing the letter on the side of the crater mid point that is closest to H. G.
