The colors of the pony are mainly brown, chestnut and black. It is known to be very hardy, friendly, adaptable and surefooted pony three gaits are nothing mentionable . The pony was used in the old days to carry or haul heavy loads at the farms and when it wasn t at work, it was released onto the mountains where it roamed free. Today it is mostly used as a riding horse for children. Image Fr243.jpg thumb left Faroe horses are an iconic image of the Faroe Islands The Faroe pony has been on the Faroe Islands for many hundred years, in the 1960s there were approximately 5 6 horses left on the Faroe Islands because of the extensive exporting of horses from the Faroes for mining use in the United Kingdom . With huge efforts, the number has now increased to about 50 horses and the aim is to maintain and develop it further. The Faroe pony has recently when date February 2011 been recognised as a unique breed. The Faroe pony are only to be seen on the Faroe Islands and therefore are little known in other countries. V kar was founded in 1833 and belonged to the village of G sadalur farther south. Even today a path still connects the two communities with each other. Even though the landscape was very favorable, V kar had already been abandoned by 1910, because it was too difficult to reach. It shared this fate with its former neighboring community of Sl ttanes , which had also been founded during the same period. The name V kar means coves in Faroese language Faroese , a name with has similar meaning is held by Island V gar . It depicts a ram sheep Ram Lang fo Ve rur on a shield. In blazon, Azure, a ram passant Argent armed and unguled Or. Later uses show a Ram in a seal device seal used by the Lang fo L gr ttumenn , members of the Old Faroese law Court, the L gting . The coat of arms went out of use when the L gting was abolished in 1816. After the L gting was reestablished in 1852 and even when the Faroe Islands were effectively outside direct Danish rule during the British occupation of the Faroe Islands in World War II British occupation in World War II the coat of arms was not used. After the Home Rule Act came into force in 1948 the coat of arms came into use again. Not by the L gting Parliament but by the Landsst ri Government . The old title L gma ur had been reestablished, but this time as the leader of the government. The coat of arms followed him. On 1 April 2004, the Prime Minister s Office announced that from then on the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister s Office would use a new version of the coat of arms.
