Courtesy NASA . Fangataufa Fangatafoa is a small, low, narrow, coral atoll in the eastern side of the Tuamotu Archipelago . Along with its neighboring atoll, Moruroa , it has been the site of approximately 200 nuclear bomb tests. Access to the lagoon is through a pass lying 0.5 mile SW of the northernmost point of the atoll the channel has a width of about 60m and a dredged depth of 6.5m. A 12m long quay, in 2.5m of water, is situated in the NE part of the lagoon another quay, 50m long in 5m of water, and landing ramps, were constructed in its E part. Unreferenced date December 2009 The TN 75 is a France French built fusion bomb thermonuclear warhead used on France s M45 SLBM submarine launched ballistic missiles, carried by the last of the Le Redoutable class submarine Redoutable class submarines, S616 L Inflexible S 615 Inflexible , and by the Le Triomphant class submarine Triomphant class submarine s. The French Navy has 290 TN 75 warheads. It is a miniaturised, hardened and stealthy successor to the TN 71 . Development began in 1987 and developmental testing of the warhead ended in 1991, but French president Jacques Chirac asserted in June 1995 fifty year after Hiroshima that a full yield proof nuclear testing test was needed prior to deployment, causing an international outcry. Its first full yield test was probably the 110 kt detonation on the 1 October 1995 at Fangataufa . It will be succeeded by the TNO, the T te nucl aire oc anique .
