It was invented by Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit 1686 1736 , better known for his work in thermometry. Operation The Fahrenheit hydrometer is a constant volume device that will float in water. In the figure shown here, the hydrometer is floating vertically in a cylinder containing a liquid. At the bottom of the hydrometer is a weighted bulb and at the top is a pan for small weights. To use the hydrometer, one first accurately determines its weight W while it is dry. Next, the device is placed in water, and a weight w sufficient to sink a marked point on the rod to the water line is placed on the pan. At that point, the weight of water displaced by the instrument equals W w. The hydrometer is then removed, wiped dry, and placed in the liquid whose density is to be determined. A weight x sufficient to sink the hydrometer to the same marked point is placed in the pan. The central element of the plot is that a rich playboy, James Vandaleur, and his expensive multiple aptitude Android robot android have become two aspects of a single insane personality. Vandaleur s father is dead, having lost the family fortune, and Vandaleur only has the android which, if it works correctly, can bring in more than enough income to support him in the manner to which he had become accustomed. Plot On a warm humid planet, vast paddy field s raise a huge crop of rice. In these fields men are searching for a lost child. They find the young girl dead, and under her fingernails is blood. Android blood. It s a very hot day. James Vandaleur flees with his android. The android has progressed from acts of defiance, to random destruction, to murder. Each time they flee, each time with less money. They take a space liner to another planet. Vandaleur hires out the android and becomes the plaything of a rich older woman. Vandaleur uses a false name, but she easily identifies the man and his android. In the hot furnace room of her jewelry manufacturing business, the android pours molten gold over her, killing her horribly and painfully. Operation Fahrenheit was a British Commando raid during the Second World War . It was carried out by a small group of men from No. 12 Commando and No. 62 Commando over the night of 11 12 November 1942. Captain land Captain O B Micky Rooney and six Non commissioned officers from No. 6 Commando, with two men from No. 62 Commando formed the raiding party. The objective of the raid was to capture German servicemen for interrogation by attacking a signals station at Pointe de Plouezec on the north Brittany coast. One raiding party left Dartmouth, Devon Dartmouth on the 11 November in Motor Torpedo Boat MTB 344. After reaching their target they discovered that the cliff tops were heavily mined. Rooney and one of his men checked out the signals station and a nearby pillbox . The signals station was protected by barbed wire and sentries and the pillbox was unoccupied. Rooney decided to carry out a frontal assault on the signals station. Splitting the unit into three groups, they made their way to within yards of the barbed wire. While Rooney was preparing a hand grenade they were heard by the two sentries. Before they could react they were killed by the hand grenade and machine gun fire. The occupants of the signal station were then engaged, killing two who had come into the open. The others returned fire from inside the signals station and it was decided to withdraw before reinforcements arrived.
