Unlike plain XML, CAML contains specific groups of tags to both define and display render data. Elements CAML allows developers to both construct and display data. Microsoft refers to elements used to construct data as Definition elements and elements used to display data as Rendering elements. Data Definition Elements Data definition elements are used to define lists and sites in the same style as basic XML but with a limited set of keywords . A simple definition of the fields in a list might look something like this code Fields Field Type Counter Name ID . . . other field definitions. . . Its current status is a W3C W3C recommendation Candidate Recommendation , adopted April 1, 2010. Whereas VoiceXML is designed to provide a Voice User Interface to a voice browser , CCXML is designed to inform the voice browser how to handle the telephony control of the voice channel. The two XML applications are wholly separate and are not required by each other to be implemented however, they have been designed with interoperability in mind Status and Future CCXML 1.0 has reached the status of a W3C recommendation Candidate Recommendation . The transition from W3C recommendation Last Call Working Draft to W3C recommendation Candidate Recommendation took just over 3 years. It is somewhat of a departure from all previous types of user assistance for Windows operating systems. Some of its features have been available in Microsoft .NET .NET Framework 2, but more options shipped with the release of .NET Framework 3. The current type of user assistance for Windows operating systems uses files created with a command line compiler hhc.exe that compiles a .hhp project file, .hhc table of contents file, .hhk index file, and a collection of HTML topic files and the related resources CSS, JavaScript, and image files into one Microsoft Compressed HTML Help .chm file. The most significant aspect of MAML is that it shifts the production of user assistance to the concept of structured authoring somewhat similar to Darwin Information Typing Architecture DITA or DocBook . Documents and their constituent elements are defined by their context. The emphasis is on content and the tasks a user performs with a computer, not the features of the software. Presentation is managed as part of the rendering engine when a user requests a topic. The MAML authoring structure is divided into segments related to a type of content conceptual, FAQ , glossary, procedure, reference, reusable content, task, troubleshooting, and tutorial. Three levels of transformation occur when a topic is displayed structure, presentation, and rendering. The structural transformation contains reusable content and applies conditional logic ... more details

JSML is primarily an XML text format used by Java applications to annotate text input to speech synthesizers. Elements of JSML provide speech synthesizer with detailed information on how to speak text in a naturalized fashion. JSML defines elements which define a document s structure, the pronunciation of certain words and phrases, features of speech such as emphasis and intonation, etc. JSML is designed in the Java fashion to be simple to learn and use, to be portable across different synthesizers and computing platforms, and although designed for use within is also applicable to a wide range of languages. Speech Synthesis MarkupLanguage SSML is an XML based markuplanguage for speech synthesis applications. It is a recommendation of the W3C s voice browser working group. SSML is often embedded in VoiceXML scripts to drive interactive telephony systems. However, it also may be used alone, such as for creating audio books. For desktop applications, other markup languages are popular, including Apple Inc. Apple s embedded speech commands, and Microsoft Microsoft s Speech Application Programming Interface SAPI Text to speech TTS markup, also an XML language. SSML is based on the Java Speech MarkupLanguage JSML developed by Sun Microsystems , although the current recommendation was developed mostly by speech synthesis vendors. It covers virtually all aspects of synthesis, although some areas have been left unspecified, so each vendor accepts a different variant of the language. Also, in the absence of markup, the synthesizer is expected to do its own interpretation of the text. So SSML is not a strict standard in the sense of C programming language C , or even HTML .
