European Architecture Student Assembly was founded in 1981 by architect students like Geoff Haslam and Richard Murphy architect Richard Murphy and is closely related to the Winterschool concept, which organises similar events for UK students of architecture. EASA takes place each summer in a different country, with the event usually lasting two weeks. It is organised by students of architecture for students of architecture and the concept is operated on a cooperative basis. In fall at INCM, Intermediate National Contact Meeting, the location for EASA is decided one and a half year in advance. Typically 400 students take part in the event and engage in workshops , exhibitions , lectures and social events loosely based around a specific theme. These events are run by a combination of academics and students and encompass a wide variety of activities with a greater or lesser relationship to architecture. The event is funded through a combination of attendance fees which vary for each country based upon ability to pay , grants and sponsorship, all arranged by the organising committee for each event. EASA has little or no formal structure in that each event is organised as a unique occurrence though a system of National Contacts , NC s , that ensures, that the event each year is well supported. NC s also typically meet once a year to discuss the previous EASA and prepare for the next. Students come from over 40 European countries to the event each year. Introduction The tournament is organised twice a year, once during the Pentecost weekend and once in autumn. The tournament always starts on Friday and finishes on Monday. Although each ETDS is organised by a different party, the structure remains fairly constant on Friday evening, the wiktionary blind date blind date program takes place, in which dancers that do not have a partner can try to find a nice dancing partner. On Saturday, the Ballroom dance ballroom tournament for the breitensport explained below takes place and the Latin dance Latin American tournament for the open class. On Sunday, both classes dance the other discipline. Everyone goes home in the morning of the Monday after, or sometimes late on Sunday. The organisation of each tournament is in the hands of a different participating university. The tournament takes place in the city of the organising university, and the location changes each half year to another European city. So far, the tournament has always taken place in either Germany or the Netherlands . Although the primary focus of the ETDS lies in organising a tournament of a high level, the event also aims at creating a social event where dancers from all of Europe can meet each other. This is stimulated by the possibility to blind date and by respectively organising a themed festival and a gala on the Saturday and Sunday evening of the event. The Swedish National Union of Students Sveriges F renade Studentk rer , SFS , is an umbrella organisation of studentsunion s at higher education facilities in Sweden . The organisation was founded in 1921. It has around 64 affiliated students unions, gathering around 270,000 students 2007 . The large number of organised students can in part be explained by the fact that membership in the official local studentsunion is mandatory for students at university universities and university college s in Sweden. The local studentsunion is, however, free to decide whether to join the National Union of Students or not. Although a majority of the students unions are members, some have opted to stay out, including several organising business, law and medicine students. Occasionally, affiliated unions choose to leave the organisation, but sometimes rejoin at a later date, a pattern followed by both the Stockholm University StudentsUnion and the Uppsala Student Union . The latest case of a large local studentsunion withdrawing from the Swedish National Union of Students is The Stockholm University StudentsUnion, in 2005. The organisation works to represent the interest of its members on a national level, towards the Government, the Parliament of Sweden Swedish Parliament , the political parties and the government agencies concerned with higher education. The organisation is also active on the international arena, particularly within the National Unions of Students in Europe , ESIB.
