Through different periods of his live he was trained in architecture, social services, photography and Fine Art. He gained his MA Fine Art from Central St Martins College of Art and Design in 2004. His professional practice ranged from being a mental health carer, a mental health writer, consultant and campaigner, to running mental health charities, running a bookshop in Brixton and Garden Design. He used to jointly manage the Breaking the Circles of Fear team at the Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health. The project aimed to promote mental health service user inclusion and positive mental health for Black mental health service users. As an artist Francis has been exhibiting across the UK. His collaborations with former asylum patients were shown in Birmingham , installations about voting processes in the Nehru Centre London, his photos and videos at the Stephen Lawrence Gallery in Greenwich. References in his work range from contemporary racism and the history of the slave trade to the colonial plant trade.
