  1. Epoxy glazing

Wikify date July 2011 Porcelain and ceramic fixtures are being more commonly glazed with 2 part epoxy compounds. The first component is a clear or opaque resin combined with a catalyst or hardener. The proper procedure requires that the non porous fixture be sand blasted to create a rough surface for the epoxy primer to adhere to. Once the primer has dried the topcoat is applied. Since a true epoxy begins to yellow at the age of 1 year acrylic urethane compound is used in the topcoat. This resin is also catalyzed with a hardener and can last up to 15 years or more with proper maintenance. Formica countertops can also be glazed in this fashion using a faux stone or granite look. 1. Epoxy putty

Epoxy putty is a room temperature hardening substance used as a space filling adhesive. It is stored until use as two components of clay like consistency. Kneading the two components into each other creates an exothermic chemical reaction that activates the substance for use by catalyzing an epoxy epoxide polymerisation reaction. Unlike many other types of glues, an epoxy adhesive can fill gaps and even be Molding process molded into a structural part. 1. BT-Epoxy

BT Epoxy belongs to the group of thermoset resin s used in printed circuit board s PCBs . It is a mixture of epoxy resin , a common raw material for PCBs and BT resins. BT stands for Bismaleimide Triazine resin. This is in turn a mixture of Bismaleimide , which as such is also used as a raw material for PCBs and Cyanate Ester . Three cyano groups of the cyanate ester are trimerized to a triazine ring structure, hence the T in the name. In presence of a bismaleimide the double bond of the maleimide group can copolymerize with the cyano groups to heterocyclic 6 membered aromatic ring structures with two nitrogen atoms pyrimidines . The cure reaction occurs at temperatures up to 250 degrees C, and is catalyzed by strongly basic molecules like Dabco diazabicyclooctane and 4 DMAP 4 dimethylaminopyridin . Products with very high glass transition temperatures Tg up to 300 degrees C and very low dielectric constant can be obtained. These properties make these materials very attractive for use in PCBs. 1. Epoxy granite

advert date May 2011 Image Mineral casting.jpg thumb right Mineral casting Refimprove date May 2010 Epoxy granite , also known as synthetic granite , ref cite doi 10.1016 0141 6359 79 90104 1 ref is a mixture of epoxy and granite commonly used as an alternative material for machine tool bases. Epoxy granite is used instead of cast iron and steel for better vibration damping , longer tool life, and lower assembly cost. Machine tool base Machine tools and other high precision machines rely upon high stiffness, long term stability, and excellent damping characteristics of the base material for their static and dynamic performance. The most widely used materials for these structures are cast iron, welded steel fabrications, and natural granite. Due to the lack of long term stability and very poor damping properties, steel fabricated structures are seldom used where high precision is required. Good quality cast iron that is stress relieved and annealed will give the structure dimensional stability, and can be cast into complex shapes, but needs an expensive machining process to form precision surfaces after casting. Good quality natural granite is becoming more and more difficult to find, but has a higher damping capacity than cast iron. Again, as with cast iron, the machining of natural granite is labour intensive and expensive. Process Image Aggregate.jpg thumb Epoxy granite aggregate Precision granite castings are produced by mixing granite aggregates which are crushed, washed, and dried with an epoxy resin system at ambient temperature i.e., cold curing process . 1. Fusion bonded epoxy coating

Fusion bonded epoxy coating , also known as fusion bond epoxy powder coating and commonly referred to as FBE coating , is an epoxy based powder coating that is widely used to protect steel pipe used in pipeline construction, concrete reinforcing bars rebar and on a wide variety of piping connections, valves etc. from corrosion . FBE coatings are thermoset polymer coatings. They come under the category of protective coatings in paints and coating nomenclature. The name fusion bond epoxy is due to resin cross linking and the application method, which is different from a conventional paint. The resin and hardener components in the dry powder FBE stock remain unreacted at normal storage conditions. 1. Vinyl ester

Vinyl Ester , or Vinylester , is a resin produced by the esterification of an epoxy resin with an unsaturated carboxylic acid monocarboxylic acid . The reaction product is then dissolved in a reactive solvent, such as styrene, to a 35 45 percent content by weight. It can be used as an alternative to polyester and epoxy materials in matrix or Composite material composite materials , where its characteristics, strengths, and bulk cost intermediate between polyester and epoxy. Vinyl ester has lower resin viscosity approx 200 cps than polyester approx 500cps and epoxy approx 900cps . In homebuilt airplanes, the Glasair and Glastar kit planes made extensive use of vinylester reinforced fiberglass structures. It is a common resin in the marine industry due to its increased corrosion resistance and ability to withstand water absorption.
