These membranes divide the cell into functional and structural compartments, or organelles . In eukaryote s the organelles of the endomembrane system include the nuclear envelope , the endoplasmic reticulum , the Golgi apparatus , lysosome s, vacuole s, vesicle biology vesicles , and the cell membrane .
