There was formerly an oil palm milling plant within the estate but in 2005 it was abandoned due to reduced input of oil palm bunches. The Dutch detached some of their forces attacking the Portuguese in Brazil to attack Fort Elmina on the Gold Coast region Gold Coast in Africa. 9 Ships and 1,300 men were sent under the command of Colonel Hans Coine. They landed on July 24, and proceeded to canoe down the Sweet River towards the Portuguese fort. A hill dominated the fort that Coine determined need be taken if they were to take the fort. However, 1,000 natives allied to the Portuguese were at the base of it, preventing the Dutch from seizing it. Coine sent a force after it, but it was cut to pieces. A second Dutch detachment fared better, sending the natives running. The Portuguese and their native allies made two attempts to take back the position, but both failed. After the second failed attack, the Portuguese fell back into their redoubt at the summit of the hill. However, the position was soon taken by the Dutch who then proceeded to bring up a mortar and two cannon to fire on the fort. The next day the Dutch attacked the fort itself, but were driven back. Nonetheless, the Dutch bombardment did not cease.     Anstis Elmina Shepard Taylor September 12, 1830 December 6, 1904 was the first general president of what is today the Young Women organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints LDS Church and was a founding member of the National Council of Women . Biography Elmina Shepard was born in Middlefield, New York to David Spaulding Shepard and Rosella Bailey. Following her graduation from public school and Hardwick Academy, she left home in 1854 to teach school in Haverstraw, New York , where she met John Druce, a member of the LDS Church. She was converted by Druce and Baptism Latter Day Saints baptized into the church on July 5, 1856. On August 31, 1856, she married George Hamilton Taylor in Haverstraw. They left New York for Utah Territory Utah on April 15, 1859, and arrived in Salt Lake City on September 16. At a meeting of the LDS Church s organization for adolescent girls held June 19, 1880, in the Salt Lake Assembly Hall Assembly Hall on Temple Square , Taylor was appointed the first general president of the Young Ladies National Mutual Improvement Association , the original name of the church s Young Women Organization . Taylor was the general president of the organization until her death in 1904. Under her direction, Susa Young Gates founded the Young Woman s Journal , which began publication in 1889. Just prior to Young s death, she shortened the name of the YLNMIA to the Young Ladies Mutual Improvement Association . Taylor was succeeded by her second counselor, Martha H. Tingey . In 1888, Young and others met with Susan B.
