Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Electronichardware refers to interconnected Electronics electronic components which perform analog circuit analog and or logic operations on received and locally stored information to produce as output and or store resulting new information and or to provide control for output actuator mechanisms. Electronichardware can range from individual chips dn electrical network circuits to distributed information processing systems. Well designed electronichardware is composed of hierarchies of functional modules which inter communicate via precisely defined interfaces. Hardware logic The term hardware logic is primarily a differentiation of the data processing circuitry from other more generalized circuitry. For example nearly all computers include a power supply which consists of circuitry not involved in data processing but rather powering the data processing circuits. Similarly, a computer may output information to a computer monitor or audio amplifier which is also not involved in the computational processes. notability Neologisms date January 2010 one source date January 2010 Social Hardware is a branch of Social Technology and related in a natural way to the branch called Social Software . It may be said to have begun with the most primitive writing implements, but the most conspicuous examples are the telegraph and telephone, especially these systems before they used computers at all. The term has entered popular use to describe electronic communications devices beginning with the Mobile phone cellphone , which is usually much more than a telephone. The term Social Hardware appears, perhaps for the first time, in a 1979 book by Johnston and Gummet. ref Johnston, R. and Gummett, P. Eds. . 1979 . Directing Technology. London, Croom Helm, page 9, also quoted on page 136 of Theory of Technology , edited by David E. Clarke ref Since then the term has entered popular culture, most often associated with personal communications devices, beginning with the cellphone. Very often social hardware is associated with social software. A writing tablet and stylus are hardware, alphabets are software. As noted in Social software social procedure , the use of currency such as a dollar bill as money is software, but one most not neglect the considerable difficulties of producing reliable coins and bills which will resist the attempts of counterfeiters. A mint produces the coinage and currency, which are items of hardware, while it is their use in society which makes the monetary system software. Modern pieces of Social Hardware include the landline telephone network and the mobile telephone network cellphones together with the cellphone towers which support them . These may also be described as Information Technology , a more common term, but Information Technology includes hardware for the transmission of all types of information, not just interpersonal communication . It is the use of telephones as interpersonal communication devices which make them social hardware. Notes references See ... more details

Evolvable hardware EH is a new field about the use of evolutionary algorithm s EA to create specialized electronics without manual engineering. It brings together reconfigurable hardware , artificial intelligence , fault tolerance and autonomous system s. Evolvable hardware refers to hardware that can change its architecture and behavior dynamically and autonomously by interacting with its environment. Introduction In its most fundamental form an evolutionary algorithm manipulates a population of individuals where each individual describes how to construct a candidate circuit. Each circuit is assigned a Optimization mathematics fitness , which indicates how well a candidate circuit satisfies the design specification. The goal is normally debugging of the system being designed. Often an emulator is fast enough to be plugged into a working target system in place of a yet to be built chip, so the whole system can be debugged with live data. The interior and exterior of Porter Hardware remains virtually unaltered and it maintains a large inventory of hardware and hard to find items. History Mr. Porter bought the lot on East Main Street in Dothan, Alabama for 300 and built the E.R. Porter Hardware building. Mr. Murphree sold his interest in the hardware to Mr. Porter a few years later and moved back to Troy, Alabama . Porter Hardware has remained in the Porter family ever since. Mr. Porter died in 1944, and it was his desire that the hardware store continue to retain its original appearance. Since that time, everything except the type of inventory has remained the same. Porter Hardware is currently owned by Mr. Porter s daughter, Jane Porter Thrower and is managed by his granddaughter, Jane Thrower II. His great grandson E.R. Hardware mixing is a performance feature of computer audio hardware which enables sound card s to receive multiple audio streams and play them all at the same time. Hardware mixing improves performance by offloading audio mixing operations from the CPU and performing them at hardware speeds. In addition to mixing, the hardware performs related operations such as sample rate conversion SRC , attenuation, and, optionally, 3D processing that would otherwise need to be performed in software. Normally, processors are sequential, and instructions are executed one by one. Various techniques are used to improve performance hardware acceleration is one of them. The main difference between hardware and software is concurrency computer science concurrency , allowing hardware to be much faster than software. Hardware accelerators are designed for computationally intensive software code. unreferenced date October 2009 Merge Hardware abstraction layer date July 2008 Hardware abstractions are sets of routines in Computer software software that emulate some System platform platform specific details, giving programs direct access to the Computer hardwarehardware resources. They often allow programmers to write Computer hardware device independent, high performance applications by avoiding standard Operating System OS calls to hardware. The process of abstracting pieces of hardware is often done from the perspective of a CPU . Each type of CPU has a specific instruction set architecture or ISA. The ISA represents the primitive operations of the machine that are available for use by assembly programmers and compiler writers. One of the main functions of a compiler is to allow a programmer to write an algorithm in a high level language without having to care about CPU specific instructions. Then it is the job of the compiler to generate a CPU specific executable. The same type of abstraction is made in operating systems, but OS API s now represent the primitive operations of the machine, rather than an ISA. This allows a programmer to use OS level operations i.e. task creation deletion in their programs while still remaining portable over a variety of different platforms.
