An American English English version in 5 volumes appeared in 1921, prepared by Rabbi Shmuel Tzvi Hirsch Glick of Chicago . It presents the original text on the right column of each page, with the corresponding English version to its left. It doesn t include any of the commentaries that appear in the classic version, but Rabbi Glick s translation and accompanying footnotes suffice for comprehension. He was born in the hamlet of Kalushkove , Lithuania , in 1891. Shortly afterwards his family moved to the village of Da hinava Dolhinov where he grew up. He studied in Minsk and then for 21 years in Slabodka yeshiva under Rabbi Nosson Tzvi Finkel Slabodka Nosson Tzvi Finkel . It was there that he met his lifelong friend Rabbi Aharon Kotler , who would go on to found the Lakewood yeshiva . His younger cousin, Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchak Ruderman , also grew up in Dolhinov. While studying in Slabodka, Rabbi Kamenetsky decided he wanted to spend a period in the Kelm yeshiva Kelm Talmud Torah , famous for its focus on task and ability to avoid distraction. However, he knew that if he asked Rabbi Finkel directly he would be refused. Therefore, one day he took a round about path to the outhouse instead of the direct one he always used. Its faculty and student body are all English speaking. The program, which is designed for students with little or no formal Jewish education, has a one year minimum and a two year maximum. He conducted a yeshivah for forty two years some of his many pupils becoming well known rabbis. In 1870 he was chosen rabbi of Warsaw and held the office for about four years, when he was compelled to relinquish it on account of not being acceptable to the Hasidic Judaism chasidim . He finished Sifte Kohen at the age of eighteen. At twenty three he wrote Tiferet Yaakov , on Shulchan Aruch Choshen Mishpat Warsaw, 1842 , but the larger part of the edition was destroyed by order of the censor see Julius Furst F rst , Bibliotheca Judaica v. 3 . His other published works also bear the same name, Tiferet Yaakov , and comprise commentary and novellae on the Talmudic tractates Gittin ib. 1858 and Chullin ib. 1867 .
