  1. William Ryerson

    William Ryerson March 31, 1797 &ndash September 15, 1872 was a Methodism Methodist minister and political figure in Canada West . He was born in Maugerville, New Brunswick in 1797 and grew up in Norfolk County, Ontario Norfolk County in Upper Canada . He served with his father as a volunteer during the War of 1812 . He converted to Methodism after the war and left home, settling in Oxford County, Ontario Oxford County . He was ordained a deacon in 1825. In 1829, he was involved in establishing a separate Canadian church and helped send his brother Egerton Ryerson Egerton to England to attempt to unite the Canadian church with the British Wesleyan Methodist Church. When this failed, in 1840, William became the first president of the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Canada he was reelected in 1847, but gave up this position when the Canadian church reunited with the British church later that year. He was active in attempting to establish missions and schools for native people. In 1830, with his brother John Ryerson John , he was a member of committee to establish the Upper Canada Academy, which later became Victoria University in the University of Toronto Victoria College . He served with the militia that put down the Upper Canada Rebellion , but also pleaded against the death penalty for the rebel leaders. In 1861, he was elected in West Brant County, Ontario Brant but he was defeated in 1863 and retired from politics. He died on his farm near Brantford, Ontario Brantford in 1872.     Art Ryerson 1913 2004 was a jazz guitarist who emerged in the 1930s, playing Acoustic guitar acoustic and electric guitar , as well as the banjo . He played with Jazz orchestra jazz orchestras and bands in the 1930s and the 1940s. In the early 1950s, he played on the early rock and roll recordings of Bill Haley , including the landmark 1953 recording of Crazy Man, Crazy , which reached no.12 on the Billboard pop chart and no.11 on the Cashbox chart. He was very influential in the Brill Building music production scene. Career Art Ryerson began playing the banjo in Columbus, Ohio before switching to the guitar. In the early 1930 s he joined The Rhythm Jesters at Radio Station WLW . In 1935, he organized a quartet in New York and began appearing in Manhattan Jazz club jazz clubs and at the famous Nick s Tavern in Greenwich Village . He typically played the Gibson Super 400 guitar. He was featured on the Columbia Saturday Night Swing Session and on the Fred Allen radio show. He played guitar in the live concert by the Paul Whiteman Concert Orchestra recorded at Carnegie Hall in New York on December 25, 1938.
