His time at Everton was short managing them for their first 22 games. When the majority of the Everton set up left Anfield due to a rent dispute, Barclay was one of the people who stayed to form a new club which eventually became Liverpool F.C. While he was in charge of the side that won the Football League Second Division Second Division championship in 1893 4, Liverpool got relegated from the Football League First Division First Division the following season with Liverpool losing a Test match association football test match to Bury F.C. Following active service in Europe as a professional soldier under Gustavus Adolphus , King of Sweden, he attained the rank of Colonel and fought in the English Civil War on the side of the Charles I England King . In 1647 he purchased the lands and barony of Urie in Kincardineshire from William Keith, 7th Earl of Marischal. As a known associate of the William Keith, 7th Earl Marischal Earl Marischal he was subsequently confined in Edinburgh Castle where he was converted to Quakerism in 1665 by the celebrated laird of Swinton dn date October 2011 , who was confined in the same prison.
