The datong wikt is a bowed string instrument in the huqin family, and is used as an accompanying instrument in the huaguxi opera tradition of Hunan , China . Referring to this role, the instrument is also referred to huagu datong . Traditionally the datong was constructed with a bamboo body, and covered on the playing end with snakeskin . It is predominantly populated by Taiwanese aborigines of the Atayal Tribe. The township is dominated by rugged mountains and wide river valleys. Most settlements in the county are located along the Lanyang River valley which runs from the Central Mountain Range central mountains of Taiwan into the Yilan Plain Lanyang Plain .
