LifeLog was a project of the Information Processing Technology Office of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency According to its bid solicitation pamphlet, it was to be an ontology based sub system that captures, stores, and makes accessible the flow of one person s experience in and interactions with the world in order to support a broad spectrum of associates assistants and other system capabilities. The objective of the LifeLog concept was to be able to trace the threads of an individual s life in terms of events, states, and relationships. LifeLog aims to compile a massive electronic database of every activity and relationship a person engages in. This is to include credit card purchases, web sites visited, the content of telephone calls and e mails sent and received, scans of faxes and postal mail sent and received, instant messages sent and received, books and magazines read, television and radio selections, physical location recorded via wearable GPS sensors, biomedical data captured through wearable sensors, The high level goal of this data logging is to identify preferences, plans, goals, and other markers of intentionality. ref http www.darpa.mil ipto Solicitations PIP 03 30.html PIP 03 30 , DARPA s bid solicitation for LifeLog now offline http web.archive.org web 20030603173339 http 3a www.darpa.mil ipto Solicitations PIP 03 30.html Archived copy of PIP 03 30 at the Internet Archive ref The DARPA program was canceled in 2004 after criticism from civil libertarians concerning the privacy implications of the system. Early apparatus used separate transmitting and receiving antennas. Later apparatus evolved toward the appearance of ordinary eyeglasses in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Lifeloggers also known as lifebloggers or lifegloggers typically wear computers in order to capture their entire lives, or large portions of their lives. Overview In this context, the first person to do lifelogging, i.e., to capture continuous physiological data together with live first person video from a wearable camera, was Steve Mann whose experiments with wearable computing and streaming video in the early 1980s led to Wearable Wireless Webcam. Starting in 1994, Mann continuously transmitted his everyday life 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and his site grew in popularity to become Cool Site of the Day in 2005 ref Cool Site of the Day, 2005 February 22nd ref . Using a wearable camera and wearable display, he invited others to both see what he was looking at, over the Web, as well as send him live feeds or messages in real time ref Wearable Wireless Webcam ref . In 1998 Mann started a community of lifeloggers also known as lifebloggers or lifegloggers which has grown to more than 20,000 members ref The Glogger community ref . 1. DARPA Agent Markup Language

The DARPA Agent Markup Language DAML was the name of a US funding program at the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency DARPA started in 1999 by then Program Manager James Hendler , and later run by Murray Burke and Mark Greaves DARPA Mark Greaves . The program focused on the creation of machine readable representations for the Web. One of the Investigators working on the program was Tim Berners Lee and to a great degree through his influence, working with the program managers, the effort worked to create technologies and demonstrations for what is now called the Semantic Web . A primary outcome of the DAML program was the DAML language, an user agent agent markup language based on Resource Description Framework RDF . This language was then followed by an extension entitled DAML OIL which included researchers outside of the DARPA program in the design. The 2002 submission of the DAML OIL language to the World Wide Web Consortium W3C captures the work done by DAML contractors and the European Union EU United States U.S. ad hoc Joint Committee on Markup Languages. This submission was the starting point for the language later called Web Ontology Language OWL to be developed by W3C s web ontology working group , WebOnt . DAML OIL was a syntax, layered on Resource Description Framework RDF and XML , that could be used to describe sets of facts making up an ontology computer science ontology . DAML OIL had its roots in three main languages DAML, as described above, Ontology Inference Layer OIL Ontology Inference Layer and Simple HTML Ontology Extensions SHOE , an earlier US research project. A major innovation of the languages was to use RDF and XML for a basis, and to use RDF namespaces to organize and assist with the integration of arbitrarily many different and incompatible ontologies. The primary goal is to make it possible for English speakers to find and interpret needed information quickly and effectively regardless of language or medium. Overview To provide that overall capability, TIDES is intended to develop a suite of robust, powerful, broadly useful component capabilities integrate those components effectively in technology demonstration systems and experiment with the systems on real world problems. These are all high risk research activities. The four component capabilities are Detection &ndash Find or discover needed information. Extraction &ndash Pull out key facts. Summarization &ndash Reduce number of words that someone must read. Translation &ndash Convert text from another language into English. Detection, extraction, and summarization must work within a language monolingually and across languages translingually to aid people who speak only English. In addition to creating effective technology, TIDES aims to develop methods for porting these capabilities rapidly and inexpensively to other languages, including languages having severely limited linguistic resources. TIDES will integrate its component capabilities with one another and with other technologies to produce synergistic, effective, end to end, technology demonstration systems able to address multiple real world applications. Investigative Data Warehouse The FBI s Investigative Data Warehouse contains an Open Source News Library . This library contains news gathered by the TIDES program. The information is collected from dozens of public websites all over the world, such as Ha aretz, Pravda, the Jordan ... ipto programs tides DEFAULTSORT Darpa Tides Program Category Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency ...   more details
