  1. Esri grid

An Esri grid is a Raster graphics raster GIS file formats GIS file format developed by Esri , which has two formats A Proprietary software proprietary binary file binary format, also known as an ARC INFO GRID , ARC GRID and many other variations A non proprietary ASCII format, also known as an ARC INFO ASCII GRID The formats were introduced for ArcInfo ARC INFO . The binary format is widely used within Esri programs, such as ArcGIS , while the ASCII format is used as an exchange, or export format, due to the simple and portable ASCII file structure. The grid defines geographic space as an array of equally sized Square geometry square grid points arranged in rows and columns. Each grid point stores a numeric value that represents a geographic attribute such as elevation or Grade slope surface slope for that unit of space. Each grid cell is referenced by its x,y coordinate location. File formats ASCII The format is relatively straightforward the first six lines indicate the reference of the grid, followed by the values listed in the order they would naturally appear left right, top down . 1. Suppressor grid

Refimprove date May 2007 A suppressor grid is a grid used in a thermionic valve also called vacuum tube to suppress secondary emission . A suppressor grid is also called the antidynatron grid, as it helps to reduce the dynatron effect. Placement In its simplest form, a suppressor grid, typically of coarse structure, is interposed between the screen grid and the anode Plate electrode plate of a tetrode , turning it into a pentode . Electrical connection of grid The suppressor grid is usually connected to the cathode and more often than not, this connection is made within the glass envelope. Because the grid is negatively charged relative to both the anode and the screen grid, it repels any secondary electrons back to the anode preventing them from contributing to the screen grid current, and to any negative resistance characteristic. 1. Semantic Grid

confusing date September 2011 The Semantic Grid refers to an approach to Grid computing in which information, computing resources and services are described using the semantic data model . In this model the data and metadata are expressed through facts small sentences . Therefore it becomes directly understandable for humans. This makes it easier for resources to be discovered and joined up automatically, which helps bring resources together to create Virtual Organization Grid computing Virtual Organizations VOs . The descriptions constitute metadata and are typically represented using the technologies of the Semantic Web , such as the Resource Description Framework RDF . By analogy with the Semantic Web, the Semantic Grid can be defined as an extension of the current Grid in which information and services are given well defined meaning, better enabling computers and people to work in cooperation. This notion of the Semantic Grid was first articulated in the context of e Science , observing that such an approach is necessary to achieve a high degree of easy to use and seamless automation enabling flexible collaborations and computations on a global scale. The use of Semantic Web and other knowledge technologies in Grid applications is sometimes described as the Knowledge Grid . Semantic Grid extends this by also applying these technologies within the Grid middleware . Some Semantic Grid activities are coordinated through the Semantic Grid Research Group of the Global Grid Forum . Image rectilinear grid.svg thumb right Example of a rectilinear grid . Image Curvilinear grid.svg thumb right Example of a curvilinear grid . Image Example curvilinear grid.svg thumb right Another example of a curvilinear grid . A regular grid is a tessellation of n dimensional Euclidean space by congruent parallelotope s e.g. bricks . Grids of this type appear on graph paper and may be used in finite element analysis as well as finite volume method s and finite difference method s. Since the derivatives of field variables can be conveniently expressed as finite differences, structured grids mainly appear in finite difference methods. Unstructured grid s offer more flexibility than structured grids and hence are very useful in finite element and finite volume methods. Each cell in the grid can be addressed by index i, j in two dimension s or i, j, k in three dimensions, and each vertex geometry vertex has coordinate s math i cdot dx, j cdot dy math in 2D or math i cdot dx, j cdot dy, k cdot dz math in 3D for some real numbers dx , dy , and dz representing the grid spacing. Related grids A Cartesian grid is a special case where the elements are unit square s or unit cube s, and the vertices are integer point s. A rectilinear grid is a tessellation by rectangles or parallelepipeds that are not, in general, all congruence geometry congruent to each other. The cells may still be indexed by integers as above, but the mapping from indexes to vertex coordinates is less uniform than in a regular grid. An example of a rectilinear grid that is not regular appears on logarithmic scale graph paper . The origin of Grid ETRS89 LAEA5210 coincides with the false origin of the ETRS89 LAEA coordinate reference system x 0, y 0 . Grid points of grids based on ETRS89 LAEA must coincide with grid points at Grid ETRS89 LAEA5210. The grid is defined as hierarchical one in metric coordinates in power of 10. The resolution of the grid is 1m, 10m, 100m, 1000m, 10,000m, 100,000m. The grid orientation is south north, west east. 1. Grid reference

Unreferenced date December 2009 File Fictional Map 1.jpg right thumb 400px A typical map displaying grid reference Grid references define locations on maps using Cartesian coordinates . Grid lines on maps define the coordinate system , and are numbered to provide a unique reference to features. Grid systems vary, but the most common is a square grid with grid lines numbered sequentially from the origin at the bottom left of the map. The grid numbers on the east west horizontal axis are called Eastings, and the grid numbers on the north south vertical axis are called Northings. Numerical grid references ... grid reference 123456, the Easting component is 123 and the Northing component is 456. Grids may ... a one kilometre square grid spacing. A grid reference locates a unique point on the map. The precision of location varies, for example a simple town plan may use a simple grid system with single letters for Eastings and single numbers for Northings. A grid reference in this system, such as H3 , locates a particular square rather than a single point. Points can be located by grid references on maps that use a standard system for Eastings and Northings, such as the Ordnance Survey National Grid used by the Ordnance Survey , and located by someone else using grid references, even if using maps of a different scale. For Ordnance Survey maps, each Easting and Northing grid line is given a two digit code, based on the British national grid reference system with origin point just off the southwest ... of a Northing and an Easting will give a four digit grid reference describing a one kilometre ... symbols are in square 6901. 1. Grid-hpa

Orphan date February 2009 Grid History Based Prediction Architecture Grid HPA is a tool for predicting the resource requirements of jobs in the Grid Computing environment based on a centralized History maintenance approach. Grid HPA has been implemented by Mahdi Bohlouli in the Iran University of Science and Technology IUST . The programming language used for implementing the tools is Java programming language Java . A SQL Server database management system has been used to store the history of executed jobs. The proposed algorithm of prediction can be used for every job in every environment, except of Grid computing. The measured accuracy of prediction in a centralized approach is better than a decentralized method, but both of these methods have advantages and disadvantages. ref Bohlouli M., Analoui M., Grid HPA Predicting Resource Requirements of a Job in The Grid Environments ,International Journal of Computer Science, Volume 3, Number 3, ISSN 2070 3856, Pages 137 141, Summer 2008 ref references Category Grid computing ...   more details
