It usually lies next to the cystic artery . It is of variable length. It contains a Spiral valves of Heister spiral valve , which does not provide much resistance to the flow of bile. Function Bile can flow in both directions between the gallbladder and the common hepatic duct and the common bile duct. In this way, bile is stored in the gallbladder in between meal times. The hormone cholecystokinin , when stimulated by a fatty meal, promotes bile secretion by increased production of hepatic bile, contraction of the gall bladder, and relaxation of the Sphincter of Oddi . Clinical significance Gallstones can enter and obstruct the cysticduct, preventing the flow of bile. The increased pressure in the gallbladder leads to swelling and pain. This pain is sometimes referred to as a gallbladder attack because of its sudden onset. During a cholecystectomy , the cysticduct is clipped two or three times and a cut is made between the clips, freeing the gallbladder to be taken out. They are also referred to as galactophores , galactophorous ducts , mammary ducts , mamillary ducts and milk ducts . They are structures which carry milk toward the nipple in a Lactation lactating female. Lactiferous duct the complex series of ducts is a system within the breast that drains into a main duct, the lactiferous duct, which ends at the nipple via a secretory pore. The large and intermediate ducts are lined by columnar epithelium supported by myoepithelial cells. Within the areola, the lactiferous duct dilates to form the lactiferous sinus in which milk accumulates in a nursing mother. When a woman is not lactating,the lacterfeous duct is blocked by a keratin plug. This mechanical barrier prevents bacteria from entering the duct in non lactating women. If the turbofan is unmixed, the bypass duct will terminate at the bypass nozzle. In mixed turbofans, the bypass duct leads to the cold chute of a forced mixer or cold mixer of an annular mixer. Some bypass ducts are unlined, so the bypass air must pass over a series of flange s, pipe material pipe s, etc associated with the engine core, which increases the bypass duct pressure loss. A lined bypass duct has a lower pressure loss, due to the streamlining effect of the inner wall introduced. Bypass ducts may be fitted with doors that allow the air to be diverted forward, providing reverse thrust . Air passing through an engine s core is not affected by this.
