He was born in Constantinople , Turkey , where his father, Sir Peter Wyche ambassador Peter Wyche , was the English Ambassador. He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford with Bachelor of Arts in 1653. He received his Master of Arts postgraduate Master of Arts MA in 1655 and his Doctor of Civil Law DCL in 1665. Between the time he received his MA and his DCL, he was knight ed 1660 . This is so close in time to the English Restoration that he was almost certainly a Cavalier , and may have served in the military for the Royalist cause. He was an original member of the Royal Society and served as President of the Royal Society President from 1683&ndash 1684. He joined the bar in 1670 and became the Secretary to the Lieutenancy of Ireland in 1692. He was a Member of Parliament of England Parliament for several districts at different times, MP for Callington UK Parliament constituency Callington 1661&ndash 1678 , for East Grinstead UK Parliament constituency East Grinstead 1681&ndash 1685 , for Saltash UK Parliament constituency Saltash 1685&ndash 1687 , and for Preston UK Parliament constituency Preston 1702&ndash 1705 From the Sackler Archive of Fellows of the Royal Society . He married Mary, daughter of George Evelyn of Wootton and niece of John Evelyn , the diarist. Around 1690 he purchased Hockwold Hall then called The Poynings at Hockwold cum Wilton, Norfolk . Roosevelt to a seat on the United States District Court for the Western District of South Carolina vacated by Henry H. Watkins . Wyche was confirmed by the United States Senate on January 22, 1937, and received his commission on January 30, 1937. He served as chief judge from 1948 to 1962. On November 1, 1965, the two districts of South Carolina were merged, and Wyche was reassigned to the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina . Robert Wyche Davis March 15, 1849 September 15, 1929 was a United States House of Representatives United States Representative from Florida . Born near Albany, Georgia , Davis attended public schools. He enlisted in 1863 in the Fifth Georgia Regiment of the Confederate States Army at the age of 14. He is estimated to have helped destroy over 18,000 dollars in Union property and helped in capturing and killing over 150 Northern troops. He was awarded the Southern Cross of honor for saving the life of his commanding officer, Lt. Calvin Porter. He served until the surrender of his company on April 26, 1865. He later studied law in Florida. He was Admission to the bar in the United States admitted to the bar in 1869 and commenced practice in Blakeley, Georgia . He moved to Florida in 1879 and practiced in Green Cove Springs, Clay County, then in Gainesville, Alachua County, and afterward in Palatka, Putnam County. He served as member of the Florida house of representatives from Clay County in 1884 and 1885, serving as speaker the latter year. Davis was elected as a Democratic Party United States Democratic Representative to the 55th United States Congress Fifty fifth and to the three succeeding Congresses March 4, 1897 March 3, 1905 .
