  1. Cycle count

A cycle count is an inventory management procedure where a small subset of inventory is counted on any given day. Cycle counts contrast with traditional physical inventory in that physical inventory stops operation at a facility while all items are counted at one time. Cycle counts are less disruptive to daily operations, provide an ongoing measure of inventory accuracy and procedure execution, and can be tailored to focus on items with higher value, higher movement volume, or that are critical to business processes. ABC analysis Most cycle counting applications use an ABC analysis , segregating items into various count frequencies. Determining selection method and count frequency There are several methods of selecting which items to count and with what frequency, and each method has strengths and weaknesses. Pareto method The Pareto method, derived from the Pareto principle , is to cycle count inventory by percentage of inventory value cost multiplied by usage for period . Items with a higher determined value are counted more often, while items that have little movement are seldom counted. This sophisticated approach appeals to accountants by minimizing the variance in inventory value, and is efficient from a supply chain management perspective, concentrating effort on higher volume of use items. ref Essentials of Inventory Management, by Max Muller p.188 ref The main shortcoming ... generate inventory reports. File Concha nasalis.gif thumb A X ray computed tomography CT scan showing evidence of the nasal cycle. The more patent airway is on the right the swollen turbinates congesting the left. The nasal cycle is the alternating congestion and decongestion of the nasal cavity nasal cavities in humans. It is a physiological congestion of the nasal concha due to selective activation of one half of the autonomic nervous system by the hypothalamus . It should not be confused with Pathology pathological nasal congestion . The nasal cycle was first described by the German physician Richard Kayser in 1895. ref Richard Kayser Die exakte Messung der Luftdurchg ngigkeit der Nase. Arch. Laryng. Rhinol. Berl. 8, 101 1895 ref Description In 1927 Heetderks ref Cummings Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery, 4th ed ref spoke about the alternating turgescence of the inferior turbinates in 80 of a normal population. The turbinates in one Fossa anatomy fossa filled up while the opposite turbinates decongested. This cycle, which is controlled by the autonomic nervous system as described above, had a mean duration of two and a half hours. He further observed and documented that the turbinates in the dependent nasal fossa filled when the patient was in the Decubitus lateral decubitus lying down position. Some postulate that this alternating positional obstruction has the purpose of causing a person to turn from one side to the other while sleeping. The nasal cycle is an alternating one, with the total resistance in the nose remaining constant. In patients with a fixed deviated septum septal deviation and intermittent nasal obstruction, the interplay of the nasal cycle becomes evident the sensation of obstruction frequently mirrors the congestion phase. 1. Vuilleumier cycle

Thermodynamics cTopic Processes and Cycles The Vuilleumier cycle is a thermodynamic cycle with applications in low temperature Refrigeration cooling . In some respects it resembles a Stirling cycle or engine, although it has two displacer s with a mechanical linkage connecting them as compared to one in the Stirling cycle. The hot displacer is larger than the cold displacer. The coupling maintains the appropriate phase difference . The displacers do no work emdash they are not pistons. Thus no work is required in an ideal case to operate the cycle. In reality friction and other losses mean that some work is required. Devices operating on this cycle have been able to produce Thermodynamic temperature temperature s as low as 15 Kelvin K using liquid nitrogen to pre cool. Without precooling 77 K was reached with a heat flow of 1 W. The cycle was first patented by Vuilleumier in 1918, and again in Leiden by KW Taconis in 1951. 1. Symphonic cycle

A symphonic song cycle can either refer to a symphony composed of separate Movement music movements played consecutively or to a set of symphonic works linked by theme, common composer, or common conductor. A symphonic cycle should not be confused with the closely related song cycle . Symphonic cycle as a whole symphonic work A symphony is essentially cyclic in nature, typically containing four interconnected movements as part of a larger work. At first the movements of a symphony were meant to be distributed among other works arias , overtures , concertos in extended evening social events at which music served a background or occasionally center role. The movements were meant to be connected and identified as part of the symphonic cycle through recall and quotation of earlier movements, and the finale movement meant to be seen as a destination and recap. It was not until Beethoven that a symphonic cycle came to be seen as a work needing isolated, consecutive play of the constituent movements. ref cite book last Brown first A. For example, the symphonic repertoire of Ludwig van Beethoven , consisting of his nine numbered symphonies, may be wholly referred to as the Beethoven symphonic cycle. Another conception of the symphonic cycle is that of a set of composer s works as performed and recorded on audio visual media by a common conductor.
