A counting process is a stochastic process N t , t 0 that possesses the following properties N t 0. N t is an integer. If s t then N s N t . If s t , then N t   &minus   N s is the number of events occurred during the interval nowiki nowiki s ,  t nowiki nowiki . Examples of counting processes include Poisson process Poisson processes and Renewal theory Renewal processes . Because of the third property, a counting process is increasing and hence a submartingale . Then by Doob Meyer , it can be written as N t M t A t with a martingale M t and a predictable increasing process A t . The martingale M t is called the martingale associated with the counting process N t and the predictable process A t is called the cummulative intensity of the counting process N t . Counting processes deal with the number of various outcomes in a system over time. An example of a counting process is the number of occurrences of heads over some number of coin tosses. If a process has the Markov property , it is said to be a Markov counting process. References Ross, S.M. 1995 Stochastic Processes . Wiley. A counting quantifier is a Mathematics mathematical term for a quantifier of the form there exists at least k elements that satisfy property X . In first order logic with equality, counting quantifiers can be defined in terms of ordinary quantifiers, so in this context they are a notational shorthand. However, they are interesting in the context of logics such as two variable logic with counting that restrict the number of variables in formulas. Also, generalized counting quantifiers that say there exists infinitely many are not expressible using a finite number of formulas in first order logic. Skip counting is a mathematics technique taught as a kind of multiplication in reform mathematics textbooks such as TERC . In older textbooks, this technique is called counting by twos threes, fours, etc. . In skip counting by twos, a person can count to 10 by only naming every other number 2, 4, 6, 8, 10. ref name titleSkip Counting cite web url http www.mathsisfun.com numbers skip counting.html title Skip Counting accessdate 2008 02 22 format work ref Combining the base two, in this example with the number of groups five, in this example produces the standard multiplication equation two multiplied by five equals ten. Another similar method is coloring in squares in a 100s chart to show multiplication patterns. Critics such as Mathematically Correct however believe that it is an inadequate method to teach multiplication and ineffective for computation compared to traditional mathematics methods of multiplication. The other two parts are set 40 years later, in 2134. This is the story of an over crowded humanity. The individual is obsolete here, even the family is a fluid notion. In such a world as described by Marusek, social institutions are oversized and functioning on weird principles. This is a world of caste system and clones.
