For the computer program Compendium software Refimprove date March 2010 A compendium is a concise, yet comprehensive compilation of a body of knowledge . A compendium may summarize a larger work. In most cases the body of knowledge will concern some delimited field of human interest or endeavour for example, hydrogeology , logology , ichthyology , phytosociology , or myrmecology , while a universal encyclopedia can be referred to as a compendium of all human knowledge . It could also be referred to as a tome. The word compendium arrives from the Latin word compenso , meaning to weigh together or balance . The 21st century has seen the rise of democratized, online compendia in various fields. Examples An example would be the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church , a concise 598 question and answer book which summarises the teachings of the Catholic Faith and Morals. ref Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church USCCB 2005 , 200 pages, English hardcover ISBN 1574557254 8675309. ref The Bible is another example of a compendium a group of many writings of the prophets and apostles over a space of time, whose books are put together to form the Old Testament and the New Testament. The terms Spanish practices or old Spanish customs are United Kingdom expressions that refer to irregular or restrictive practices in workers interests. Typically, these are arrangements that have been negotiated in the past between employers and unions . The issue arises because, in United Kingdom law, a contract of employment consists of both expressed and implied terms. ref http www.adviceguide.org.uk nm index life employment contracts of employment.htm what is a contact of employment Citizens Advice Bureau What is a contract of employment ref Implied terms can arise through custom and practice . Historically, alteration of these terms has been by negotiation and collective bargaining . For example, if it has been the habit to release staff when the day s work is done such as, today s newspaper is printed , then that becomes the de facto contract of employment. If some workers are required to stay on to do additional tasks, then it may be more convenient to pay these workers to do so since otherwise they are not being treated equitably and or have no incentive to do so . Over many years of incremental negotiation, the original rationale may be lost and a point reached where all workers ... paid . Compendium Saxonis also known as Abbreviatio Saxonis is a summary located in Chronica Jutensis . It contains a summary of Saxo s Gesta Danorum , about one fourth the size of the original. It is written in Latin . It is thought to have been written by the same author as Chronica Jutensis . In this summary, the name Gesta Danorum is found. It is not known if Saxo also used this name for his original work. As this is a summary, a large part of the original work is cut out, which some readers have found frustrating. As the author is less interested in war and battles, stories dealing with such things are often cut heavily. The original manuscript is lost, but it survives in four different handwritten copies, about a hundred years younger. One was written by a Monk from Odense in 1431.
